Its a different and far more fun experience than a traditional auto.lyron3 wrote:no not had the chance, our v70 is auto but from what i can gather they are a bit different ,any advice wuld be much appreciatedvolvosneverdie wrote:Welcome again!

It wont "creep" like a trad auto for a start.
When you pull off, depress the accellerator a small amount to begin with, which will raise the revs and engage the clutch, allowing you to pull away smoothly.
If you stand on the gas from a standing start, you'll get a big jerk as you pull away. Doesnt take much practice to get smooth!
When you do accellerate, the engine will rev first and the drivetrain then "catches up". Im probably not describing it very well but youll see what I mean when you drive it.
My preffered technique is to boot the gas till I get the desired speed then "back off" the gas as much as possible without losing speed.
Thus using minimum revs to maintain your desired speed. If you just rev it everywhere, it will drink far more petrol!
Like I say, its hard to describe, but its all in the throttle pedal.
I didnt like it after 20 mins, but loved it after an hour and im a big fan of the variomatic system now.
hope all this hasnt confused toooooooo much.

Re: new member.
To be honest, mpg is never going to be great.
I could imagine 40mpg on a long run at 55mph, but mixed driving I was getting 25-35. But I did like racing modern cars.
Its quite satisfying seeing a 1.6 GTO in the rear view mirror falling further back at every gear change.
Same as any other car, itll be most economical if well kept.
So if theres no garunteed service history I'd do the leads, dizzy, rotor arm, air fitler, oil, oil filter.
Or not. Depending on how hard its snowing!
Something I forgot to mention:
Always start it on PARK or Neautral!
AND
I'll be a manual Choke, so will rev higher with the choke on.
Now the gear Selector WONT move between positions till the car is idling low (off or low choke) so if you try and shift on full choke, youll get a LOT of grinding and a big fright!
Worth noting.

I'm glad everything worked out with Pete, he's a great guy with some awesome cars.
There is a huge amount of info for 300's here, including a lot of CVT knowledge unlike in most garages

Re: new member.
welcome
allways start a CVT in neutral, never in Park. park is reverse gear with a blocking pin in the mechanism, so if the clutch engages in park it starts to burn.volvosneverdie wrote:Always start it on PARK or Neautral!
there is a special system on every 300 cvt to prevent the above from happening, it's called the declutching mechanism. i bet the valve on your CVT was broken causing that!volvosneverdie wrote:Always start it on PARK or Neautral! Now the gear Selector WONT move between positions till the car is idling low (off or low choke) so if you try and shift on full choke, youll get a LOT of grinding and a big fright!
