F7p'd 340 horrid rattle.

Post by linkay »

I have been running my valver engined 340 for about 8 months now since i built it and have come across a problem.

When i built it i left the power steering pump on from when it was in the clio but have ben running it dry

The other day it started to rattle badly, sounded like a bottom end rattle which worried me because its a pretty sound engine.

On closer inpection the sound was coming from the cam end of the engine so i wipped of the cam belt covers and took the aux drive belt of and ran it for a few seconds with no rattle.

I tried to turn the power steering pump and it just clunks around

Is there a way of sacking off the power steering pump all together and just running a belt from the crank to the water pump and alternator???

Cheers, Ben

If you're doing away with PS and relevant pulley measure with some string what you need.

Go to a bearing distributers with your old belt for profile match and show them what you need.

Shouldn't be a problem getting a suitable replacement.

Ditch all the Renault setup, get alternator brackets from either a 340 1.7 or a Volvo 440/460/480. Use the Renault alternator and a 6PK818 belt.

What he said. Got mine here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-ALMERA-PRI ... _500wt_922

exactly the same belt as 6PK818 belt (length and width etc), just for a nissan, not a renault.

Got my 803 belt from GSF. They have them on special order, get something between 800 and 818 and you'll be laughing (818 is good but mine stretched too far)
