Aye up all.
Idiot question time.
Should new brake shoes squeal?

Just had new rear cylinders and shoes done at the garage, and there is now an unhealthy sqeal coming from somewhere under braking.

Hear it here

at 2-6 secs.

Is that normal/healthy?

Almost sounds like a failing power steering pump  Metal on metal I'd say, but it could just be the curse of using cheap friction material.

Tell you what, take it up an industrial estate or something, accelerate up to about 40, brake very hard, accelerate and repeat several times. Basically taking the top layer off your pads. I use cheap pads and this seems to work.

Standing on the anchors hard theres no noise. Only get the noise on light braking.

Gots to be the new shoes eh?

Yeah, does sound a bit wrong but it may well be. Drive around with your handbrake on for a day or two, maybe that'll settle them.

Oh and a squealing break - also known as a dirty weekend with a pig?
