BB value - really?

I have just booked the BB in for a Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) inspection for when I return on the 21st.

I looked up the VRT calculator and entered the details. The Revenue have mysteriously calculated this car to have a Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) of €15290! The guys who make this calculator up must either be Volvo nuts, or just plain nuts.

In this case it doesn't really matter as the tax is a flat 200 yoyos. But for cars under 30, the OSMP matters as they'll fleece you for a percentage (most likely 36%). Robbing barstools.

Maybe programmer forgot that one (1) does not include a zero (0) after number one (1), only 10 and 100 etc has zero after the one?

I think the equation starts with a notional 2011 OMSP, then depreciates it, then if n<€2000 then n=€2000. Or something like that.

Either way, it's a huge con (like BPM in NL) and is an import tax by another name and not in the spirit of free movement of goods round the EU. sm2
