Gear lever rod to bell housing
I'm currently doing battle with the rod that fixes between the bottom of the gear lever and the top of the rear of the bell housing (B19 360) on the scrap/spares car. Can't get the fixing pin to move across to release the bar, anyone had problems with this before?

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
Have got the same problem, sort of. I cant get the circlip off, its in too awkward of a place to get much in teh way off tools in. If its off a spares car couldnt you just cut the pin? (that's what i'm thinking of doing)

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
I've got the circlip off and the other end but the pin won't move (corroded too much to slide through what looks like rubber grommets at either end?) No way to get in to cut it off. Only way looks like to either burn the grommets away, bend the pin in the middle to pull the ends in, with a hammer and chisel or take the engine out with it attached (not sure this is possible). I'm saving all the bits for the MK1 project, not sure what I need yet for the conversion, I'm assuming the 1.4 linkage will be different to the B19/B230 where it fits the bell housing. I've got to remind myself of what the 1.4 is like as I can only get one car over the pit at a time!

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
When I took a TT out the other day, I took the ball joint off the box (linkage free at the back) then the bolt out the bell housing (linkage free at the front) then, erm, I think when I dropped the gearbox end it fell out with it. Certainly I havn't put anything back together and the linkage is stored in my garage with the gearstick still connecting to the for and aft shafts!

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
The pin has a kind of 'bracket' attached to it at the other end from the circlip end....if you get what I mean. Get something behind this part and pry the bar across. You don't have to get it all the way out, just out of the other end because the holes are slotted, so you should be able to winkle the bar free afterwards.

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
I've got that bracket off and seen the cut out bit, I thought the pin had to be levered from the circlip end to allow it to lift off and then use the cut out to allow the bar to lift up? I can lift the left side, viewed from the rear of the car, (cut out side) up but the circlip end is still captive. I'll keep trying to lever the pin!

Re: Gear lever rod to bell housing
Got it! Thanks for the comments! I ended up forcing the bracket end up and then using a long metal bar and big hammer from inside the engine compartment, hit it across. Then managed to winkle it free as pettaw said, with the pin still seized in.
