I remember some 16/17 years ago now driving a friend's mother's V 340 (I think it was a 1.7), down to Galashiels from Edinburgh. I don't remember the car being all that old at the time, but the gear knob had a habit of just coming away in your hand (say on a shift down from 3rd to 2nd). Also it had the old tailgate lock problem where the barrel came out with the key.

Was it splined or something?

yh i see what u mean. im looking for a slightly taller gear stick but ebays proving difficult

im looking at putting a jap crystal gearknob on mine but im not sure if it would work with the reverse lifter bit anyone no?

Yes it will work. Bore/tap out what ever youre using as a shifter to 16/17mm and push it on.

Lift up reverse collar will be unaffected.
