What have i broken and how do i fix it?

Post by Steveday »

Calling on the guru's of V3m.
In need of some help in more than one way, i need someone to tell me what exactly ive broken on my 360, and then i need one of you lovely people to sell me the parts required to repair it ;)
So, whilst drifting at norfolk arena a few weeks ago, all was going fine all day until late in the afternoon. Pulled off track and suddenly the gear lever doesnt seem to be attached.

Now, i can select just about all of the gears, but the actually lever seems to move far too much, touching the handbrake when its in 2nd and 4th gear and pushing against the dashboard when in all the top gears.
It does move back to its normal position when in gear, but it makes the actually changing of gears a bit vague, makes it very hard to find them.
Seems to me like its just a brace or bracket of some description, and im hoping its a bloody easy fix, but i know my luck. So if anyone could help that'd be great :)

Sounds to me like the selector rod isn't correctly attached. There's a connecting piece that acts a bit like a UJ just as the rod connects to the gearbox. It has two metal dowels which can detach and although your gearbox still gets some kind of input, it's not in the correct position.

Also 360s have a weak point under the gear stick, it's a little platform which tends to break off. Perhaps you'll need to get under and investigate...

Sounds like you've broken the welds on the gearstick to box linkage

Sounds like the gear linkage weld failure to me too ...

I did a temporary fix like this:

Gotta say I'm a bit better at welding now.

If you take the linkages off the car you can repair them and refit

Hope it helps!

A bit of butchery there, the gear lever needs to be referenced to the engine not the body, but it works for the 340 so why not. The standard fix is to cut back the hole towards the engine and bend up the flap, then you can weld the offending break without removing the whole drive system, then weld the flap back down.
