Volvo Electric Sunroof? Available?

Post by Volvo 360 GL B200K »

I have seen on more than one occasion, people advertising volvo 300's, usually 360's with electric sunroofs! I have seen the glass roofs with the manual lift up mechanism at the rear and the tilt and slide factory fitted one with a screw mechanism on the roof towars the front of the car! Has anyone seen or know if electric sunroofs exist???

I didnt think they did but please enlighten me!

Cheers

Also did any 300's ever have 4 electric windows? Again i have seen them advertised as having such, but i think the mechanism would be a bit of a squeeze in the rear doors! And where would the window switches go for the rear?!... :? I doubt both of the above!

I have a metal tilt and slide sunroof on my 1989 360 glt, however its broken! It is near impossible to twist the lever! I would like to fix it but i am a bit dubious about taking out the nice glt black roof lining and damaging it.

Anyone know how to remove and refit the roof lining succesfully?

Cheers

i've a glass lift one, not an official volvo one i think thou, looks like its aftermarket but with volvo glass (cos it doesnt work like the volvo ones do)..

it is possible to fit leccy windows after you have a car, and i guess the same is true of sunroof - maplin sell the right kinda kits to do it..

I have never seen that, from my point of view it doens't exist... The metal sunroof is a weak point, it's always broken... sm85

5lab, it is possible to add electric windows to your vehicle, just bare in mind that the motor and mechanism unit is different between the front doors on 3 doors and 4 / 5 doors! This is due to the increased size of door! (motor is the same, but the mechanism is the differing point!)

Aha! Two points of great debate...

Rear electric windows. Never seen it myself, but I know of a number of reliable people who have. My guess is they're mainly custom jobs (maplin kits) using original Volvo switches.

Electric sunroof...no idea....400 series motor? I know of a car which has a leccy sunroof, although I've never seen 'proof'. The metal sunroof is a total pain in the arse and should be fired from a cannon. I'd much rather have a solid roof - firstly the mechanism breaks, then the panel goes rusty - total nightmare!

Totally agree that the sunroof is a total nightmare on the 300 series and if anyone has any tips on repairing it please advertise it. I bought new roof plate :? , the guides  , the "chain rails" :( and still doesn't work sm38 sm38 sm38 sm38

I'm gonna try getting a sunroof specialist to fix it - they're too tricky for the amateur! Won't be cheap though...

Took me the best part of the day to remove the bloody heap of steel! As for the Haynes Manual, it's great, If you can open the sunroof fully or to the vented position! If you cant you may as well build a fire and wack it on! (No offence to Haynes - it's great really)! The wires in the tracks had become tangled, so the mechanism wouldn't work, and to add to that the mechanism that lifts the sun roof upwards, had come away from the top plate on both sides due to rust! I resorted to using bruit pressure to push the back of the sunroof down and into the slot slightly, then with the use of my trusty hammer and a block of wood, i drove the sunroof home, well pretty much - half way into the slot! Then i undid the screws at the front, yanked the roof forward, undid the rear scews and dragged the heap of steel clear of the car!!!

Below are pics of my hard labour - 2 hours to remove it!

Unless you have a lot of patience and rust repair experience, that panel is scrap. I managed to find a rust-free scrap panel after I ran out of patience and bent my panel breaking the welds the hold the skins together rather than cutting them!
