What engine? Take off your dizzy cap and give it a good coating in dw40 will protect it from the damp

Well, could be a lot of things tbh, a on off problem is difficult to trace. In the Renault engine loom there should be a small fuse and relay box. One is the main system relay, the other is for the fuel pump. I've had issues with both in the past which would cause lack of fuel or lack of everything. Lack of sparks is anything HT, back to the loom and LT side of the coil to ECU. Or, the VR sensor (Crank sensor) when they get old can have a dislike for water, my old 1.7 one used to try and stop in fords...

Not the standard Volvo one on the bulkhead.
Did you do the electrics yourself, buy a loom from Adam or buy the car with the engine in? Do you have picture taking and putting up on the web facilities?

if it's only when it rains it could be the leads that are fault, try spraying water on them on a dry day to see if sparks are flying all over the place

Ok, from the battery should be a 4ishmm red wire (may be red with white flash), Follow that to the fuse box. Where is the ECU? Indoors or on the inner wing

checked your CPS yet fraz? the guys wiring didnt look very water resistant to say the least so id go over everything with a soldering gun and some good heatshrink
