Sills

My sill link on ebay seems to have ended and been replaced with sills at £75, and on enquiry NI postage is £36!!! £105 is a bit ridiculous, especially as I paid £50 for a pair (a few years ago), unfortunately I decided to cut one up and use it as repair sections (badly) and now I want to do the job properly.

Skandix is EUR60+20 (EUR26 for ireland)=EUR80-86 and they are normally a rip off. Anyone any better ideas?

I need a 4/5 door RHS.

Wait until Mark goes to the UK and ask him nicely?

I don't usually go until December / Jan. Too skint at the moment to take a car on the ferry. Bling boy was lucky with his timing getting his seats and bumpers over ;)

As you know, anything going by Royal Fail benefits from the universal service obligation, but it's not going to happen with a sill. Most sills I can think of are over 1.5m and therefore most carriers treat them as out-of-gauge. Having said that, I did get a pair of DAF sills 5 years ago from German to England for about £12 delivery charge. Someone must have lost out, as the box weighed no more than 4kg, but the "volumetric" weight was 31.5kg. If you have to buy in Euros and can't CC it. I could probably help you out with a bank transfer. I don't know what NI banks are like, but mainland ones are very good at stinging you for £8-£35 for one.

I could probably do with a pair of sills myself. Haven't started prodding the dizzler yet.

PM mac and ask him what his contact charges. Then you'll have to work something out with the V3M courier relay system.

General Note:

I'll let you know when I'm going next as soon as I have a date fixed - always handy to know when someone is crossing the water.

Ebay seller came back and said 'thats just what the courier is charging us' , it is just me or do business have no concept of competition these days? I told them it was cheaper from Germany, and they are offering free postage to mainland, are they too thick to work out I am due some money off?

Cheers for the offers guys, I'm still looking around for a more reasonable offer on the price of the unit, nevermind delivery.

No, they aren't thick. I believe that's the price they are having to pay. Yes it will be cheaper from Germany. Count yourself lucky you get stuff at standard RM prices due to the universal postal obligation, otherwise you'd be humped for it on everything you bought - a bit like being down here, except in Pounds Sterling.

As I said before, you've got two delivery hurdles, out-of-gauge and over water.

I'll keep you guys informed as to whenever I'm heading over.

The point was that £36 was the total price charged by the courier, they already charged postage in the purchase price of the part, so that cost should have offset the £36 by £10 or so, whereas they are saying its cost £36 more than mainland postage which is ridiculous..hence thick

It may or may not be £10, even I could shift up to 10kg round the mainland for £7, bulk shifters could get discounted more.

Regardless of the figures, I agree it's a major ball-ache.

I've never come across a German refuse shipping to IRL, I've come across plenty of UK seller either unwilling to ship beyonds their shores or put a punitive price on it.

Skandix list postage to UK (EUR20)+Ire (EUR26), not sure what they would do for NI probably the 26 I'm guessing.
