480 or 240 for that?

the econometer (afaik) does the same job as a boost gauge. so why not just hook it up??

Well very true...adding the turbo would seem to be rather more fundamental, but there's the small problem of insurance. Figuring out how to fit a boost gauge to the stock cluster is free :)

Its from a 740.
The 480 one looks like this:

The 240 one is two coloured, and fits in a standard VDO 52mm pod...

Yes, the economy gauge works in exactly the same way, but it can only read negative values (vacuum), rather than positive (boost)....see how the needle on this one is centred?

well, turbo would probably be easiest with an engine swap..

1.4 to a 5gtt engine, 1.7 to a 400 turbo engine and a 2l to a 760turbo engine :)

i recon a 340 gtt would be alot of fun - the power/weight ratio could work out better than a 2.3 turbo with a bit of tuning, and then you're onto a winner :)

The 760 motor is 2.3. Some 940 turbos were 2.0...but lacked torque in comparison to the 2.3. The 2.0 makes better power (relative to size), but torque is more 'use'. Then there's the 2.0 16v Turbo (italian market) or a hybrid 2.3 16v turbo (never made by Volvo, but has been 'built' many times).

340 Turbos are kinda tempting...but the R5 engine is crap (big boost on an ancient engine design to get big power = a daft idea), the 1.7 turbo...not suitable for big power. The 360 has better weight distribution (different fuel tank), and its still a good 300kg lighter than a stripped 242, and some of those are running low 13s 1/4 miles times with about 300bhp.

I agree, an engine swap (incl electronics) is the easiest way, but here's an alternative...

1) Get manifolds, turbo, intercooler and piping from 700 TIC.
2) Get computer from a 940 2.0 turbo, or use a programmable fuel injection & ignition system (reprogram the Motronic system from the 700, or use Megasquirt).

You pretty much *have* to ditch Renix and LE-Jet at this point.
You've also seriously got to worry about transmission above 250bhp.

I think a B230ET with a hot cam and about 15psi (1 BAR) of boost (with the fuel / ignition upgrades to cope) ought to be a very formidable unit to put in a 360 - about 230-240 bhp, and a nice fast spool-up!

cheers

ah but you see, with a gtt engine, you're not trying to counter as much weight, cos the thing weighs f*ckall :)

i know large boost from an old engine is silly, but gtt engines seem surprisingly resiliant - i mean mine (so its detuned.. but still nice) has 180 on the clock now and is still going strong - the car will rot away years before the engine..

Your 1.4 has 180k? You're really lucky! They tend to die after about 130k...

A Ren 1.4 motor still weighs a ton, as its still a cast iron block. Smaller, yes, but the weight loss is not that significant. If you want to gain real benefit you need an all-alloy block...but there are more complexities introduced there. Weight is not that bigger consideration for me...if I were to go R5 GTT, it'd be because of all the sweet-ass parts you can get. Do GTT motors have OHC heads? As it happens, the redblock is even better, as the engine is already well developed (good manifolds, etc), and there are stock parts to make it hot (eg: cams).

cheers

What vehicle was the turbo gauge that you mounted in the dash display from? I take it was a 200 series, but what model was it, glt...?!

Quite interesting... A turbo gauge in the dashboard... sm71

I dream about a 360 with the B200ET, it's seems to be a great engine on the 740, it would be fantastic on a 360...

Well you know I would be already really happy with a B200ET... :P

Maybe not enough power for you?

Well true...I'm power hungry! :)

They never actually made a B200ET, only a B200FT. That has 155 bhp (the same as a B234F - 2.3 16v)...which isn't that much. I want at least 200 bhp.
