I've just been kindly offered the chance of buying it by the owner, going to see it this afternoon.

I can't keep another so it may well be up for sale shortly, that is unless I find a wife-proof underground storage bunker at little or no cost.

As it lives only 2 miles away, the best option is to obtain it quickly then find a home for it/argue with Mrs HD, otherwise it will be scrap or banger fodder.

Of course if the price is too high then I'll NOT be buying it!

I will be getting it, just arranging short term storage. Had a couple from V3M regulars asking about it already, if they don't have it then I will put in for sale thread with price after a few days. Not trying to make big profit, good home and quick sale more important. I know technically it should go straight in with a price, but to be honest this thread started without any advance planning as the owner rang me this morning and I put it up minutes before even going to see it. Anyway, I can't really put it up for sale till I've got it! Part of me also says keep it but being realistic, I can't keep it and need to give family/other cars my attension first If it's not sold to one of them by the weekend I'll put up a proper for sale thread with price. (assuming I don't win/inherit/steal a large amount of cash to buy a warehouse first)

Yes, A reg (Mk2 for those who do the Mks). It's solid but not perfect below the waterline. Remember how flattering photos of 300's are! To say it's 28 years old, it's not bad, far better than the Mk1 I have. I should really use this for my B230 project. (If it wasn't a many door, I would ) Maybe I should keep it till I'm sure the Mk1's not beyond my welding skills?...thats got me thinking now

Well done - it pays to be nice and talkative to people. I wish the old couple who owned a W-reg green 343 I spotted in the town I grew up about 10 years ago would have taken my details.

Quick update, car is now mine but still to pick up. Just about all bills for work done over 28 years no old MOTS but all history there in black and white!

The car is now safely transfered and in a garage. Not, I might add, within reach or sight of Mrs HD
I 'm very, very much tempted to swap this for my 340 and reluctanly sell that instead. (dependant on a good check over). Driving the redblock just makes you smile in a way the 1.7 can never quite match .
More photos, interior is mint, outside paintwork pretty good. A few what I hope are minor rust areas which need investigation and one or two only cosmetic ones.

MPG, tax and insurance must all be near what the 1.7 costs?

Tax is the same, so is the insurance (£94 extra for the year on top of the 340 and 360 already on the policy (3000 miles). Fuel economy is the only downside. Fairly easy to achieve 35+mpg in the 1.7 at a reassonable speed but the GLS it's about 30-33 at best with with a very light foot!
