Is there an affordable alternative or another fitting? Seems odd that there are no replica around considering there were nearly 1 million of these vehicle sold. Any other cars at the time run a similar or same fitting?

I'm sure there is, just no one has found one yet :s
Normally I'd suggest checking renaults and the like, given the link, but considering the bearing (top mount bearing) is shared with Montego/Maestro and Ibiza (84 shape) they have to be worth a look.

Got in touch with mg club....no luck.......have been in touch with scandix...and asked for them to make strut mounts and engine mounts...we all need to get onto these guys and persuade them to start making these babies.

I believe Robbert (volvomania) and/or the V3C are working on getting these reproduced on an exchange basis - but I'm not sure on the current status.

The engine mounts front are no problem (340).
Rear can be produced depending on demand. I have asked in the past if these were wanted but did not get any (!!) replies.
NOS I still have a set or 2.
For the strut mounts I need plenty of old worn ones. I have been asking for these now for a very very long time but have collected less than 20 so far.
So I am busy getting other stuff reproduced for our cars that is wanted. Only 1 problem, the list keeps on growing...

How many worn strut mounts will you need for a re- run Robbert?

They are going to give the contact number of a guy that custom makes Volvo mounts etc. They reckon he's done 740 Volvo one before etc. I'll let you guys know if this ever eventuates..

To get things started I need 115 mounts in total as a 15% reject is expected in the metalwork.
I have found some 15 so far.

I've noticed that the 360GLS models (or at least both I have and the tops mounts off the parts car, also a GLS) have a different type of mount with more metal. Am I right in thinking these are less likely to fail? Where they an earlier type? I assume that these would be too rare to replicate and there is little point in making two types when one will do.

Phew, that will take a while to build up

I have some used ones, but they're far from "knackered" and still have plenty of life left in them ...

the new type was introduced with modelyear 86, the old ones do last longer as the new design damps more vibrations but unfortunatly we know that this means they stretch out

That explains it then. I have 2 of the later type which are damaged, those can be added to the 15 so far then! I'll use the older ones I have as spares for the 89 340 in case it ever fails on them, at which time 2 more will become available. So eventually all of the cars will end up with old type ones. If anyone else has any to send to Volvomania or are going over to call in on him let me know and I can bring them to the V3M meet to save postage. Anyone with any laying around that are no good make sure they reach him and we might get 20 before Christmas! I suppose the problem is the lack of even a temporoary replacement until a production can be made of new ones.
Is the rquirement for 100 good ones due to a minimum production run?
