340 T does 14.5 sec quater mile

Post by huskyracer »

Hi everyone, went to the Retro cars show at santa pod on sunday. Did any one else go? there was some quality machinery in attendance, only saw a couple of volvos though sm13 . Ran the volvo down the strip but it was 15 quid for three runs! The first run was against a green avenger with two holleys hanging out the bonnet, which did a burn out that filled the strip with smoke. It seriously whipped my arse! sm66 It turned out to be my best run, on the second one I roasted the clutch leaving the line in second   and on the third one I girlied it off the line and ran through in 16.3 something. Top day out though, put it on your list for next year and get some volvos down there 340pw

Nicely done! What a machine indeed. Just out of interest, what tyres are on it now, as I remembered grip was an issue, and it appears as though you've put some alloys on the back?

I bought some golf 15'' alloys off ebay, which bolt straight on, onto which I have fitted some very classy (not) marshall power racer 2 tyres. It grips a lot better, but it feels like the back axle is trying to escape when you launch it hard now. Time for some anti tramp bars............

How did I miss this?! Nice time! Having said that, surely that's not your registration number on the slip?!

Curious 1/4 mile tactics here....it trapped at 95mph, same as Chesh's 740 Turbo, but ran 0.5 - 1s faster thatn Chesh's average times. Gotta love the way 300s get off the line.

Jeroen...get back in line...I'm having a B204GT :-P

cheers

The runs were at the retro cars show, and they ran it as a competition with three classes, a, b, or c dependant on engine capacity, they painted a number on the back window instead of using the reg number. You can see it in the photo, just above the rear window wiper.

The gas will be fitted only when I get in the 13 second bracket, I am sure a sub 14 second run is achiveable with some suspension mods (stop the axle tramp) a decent clutch, and a bit more practice launching the car. looking at the time slips, I recon i can get 3 tenths off the 60 foot time, which should help further up the strip too, hopefully gaining 1 or 2 tenths, which would mean a 14 dead run, and I think I can do that as the car is. so with the bits on it it must be good for 13.8/13.9 sec. Then I can fit it with the gas (50hp) and go looking for 12's The only worry is the internal strength of a b18ft engine, it could all end in tears and broken con-rods sm75

Hehe...a 12 second 340. Am I the only one who thinks that's a qualification for knighthood?! Time to put the honours system to some good :) I've not heard of many B18FTs making it far into the 200s, but (as with many older engines), that's due to the slightly ghetto tuning techniques back in the day. People are re-writing the rule book for redblocks all the time with the widespread use of decent EMS - 300bhp on the 'weak' 9mm rods, for example.

I think I have some pics of a Panhard rod on a 360 axle, but I'm afraid that's about as much use as I can be on that front. Progress is being made with the Bilsteins and Konis though ;) How are you finding wheelspin....are you missing an LSD?

cheers

Surely this bloke is not using the 9mm connecting rods to get 578Hp at 6300rpm and 706Nm at 4900rpmfrom his B230!

Err, that'll be a no...

If you look at the details he's using Sten Parner 'H' beam con rods.
