To have a 340 is expensive

Post by Olafito »

During a year I used my car every day because of my job.I made 50 km every day(10000 km a year) and it had a medium cost of 100 € in fuel every month. It drinks a lot sm4

My car has done over 18,000 miles since I bought it last october and costs about £ 200.00 a month in petrol which is about 89p a litre where I live its a 1.7 engine and I am very happy with its economy which is averaging out at 40 miles to the gallon , however I should point out this is 90% motorway mileage

for some reason the 1.7 seems to be more economical than the 1.4
maybe its the power to weight ratio

its because the 1.4 is a high-friction pushrod engine from the 60s :)

Still an impressive design which can last for high mileages and a reasonable power output for its capacity. The mid-90's VW 1.6 engine only put out 75bhp, the 1.4 B14 does that :)

i'm using 4l per 100km on my 340 on "long-driving", what is pretty nice. Goes about 6-7L/100km in city-driving. But it seems to drink gas on cold motor in the vinter (get's pretty cold up here). Really happy whit the economy on my 340 1.7l... even though fuel is expensive here..

The 1.4's much nicer to feed than the 2.0i.... Oh, bad news on that, see the demand section.

If I have to feed an engine, I prefer to spend money on feeding a 2.0! It gives you so much in return!

I'm driving my 2nd car with the 2.0 litre engine right now. The econometer is always in the red section of the dial :P So it's not very economical, but it's worth it all! The engine is nearby industructable.

Foggy has an econ gauge and a trip computer with instantaneous mpg reading and it hasn't made him drive properly............

A proper 1.7 is very fuel economical.
If yours is drinking a lot it has a faulty carb...
