Ebay dude, you'll make a few hundred over scrap value with an MOT.

3 or 5 door? It will also be a 1.4 unless it's had an engine swap as it's a Mk2 :) Looks nice!

Ah ok il have to check that, he said it was a 1.7 he must be wrong, he also said its rear wheel drive, does that sound right?
its a 5 door

Yep it's rear wheel drive. They have a transaxle with a De-Dion axle and leaf springs. It's a really weird setup for a 'normal' hatchback in the 80's but that's why we like them :)

It could well be a 1.7 but the 1.7 would've never originally been fitted to that body shape and given the low mileage I'd be surprised if it's had an engine swap :) The 1.4 is really nice and simple if it needs re-comissioning. Unfortunately 3 doors tend to be more popular than 5 doors, but I can't see why it wouldn't make £400-700 if the shell is rust free with an MOT. It is atleast a nice colour! Shame the trim around the windscreen looks a bit manky!

Nah it's worthless mate, send me your boss's phone number and I'll get rid of it for him. I won't even charge.

Interesting, the 'Older car price guide' from 1996 shows that B/C reg's were right at the cross-over point where the 1.7 was introduced. Maybe there are some 'early' 1.7's ?? Interested to know this and where the car is located ;-)

Thanks for your posts guys, well ive had a better look at the car today i took it of the trailor battery was flat but with a jump he started first time...amazing!
Well the interior really is very tidy, it was like going back in time.
The mileage is 52k so higher than i was told, theres a small rust bubble just under the window on the rear passenger door only surface rust though, and the wheels have slight rust marks, but i will clean them up. also around the windscreen has mold markings but again i will clean this off.
anyway i didnt have too much time today, but i managed to give him a quick wash heres some pics, if anyone is interested please make an offer with or without a mot.
Oh and you guys are right it is a 1.4

The first 1.7s were C plates, and mk3s. George Mitchell owned a very early one (I seem to recall it had one of the first 1000 engine numbers), which was a C plate mk3.

I bought a pretty much identical car a year ago, and sold it without MOT and covered my costs. It'll sell much better with test, though.

cheers

James

Just as an off chance, does it have electric windows or 6 gauges in the main dash cluster? I've seen a fair number of special editions in that blue, on a B plate, with those toys.

Not that it'll make any more money for you, but might entice a buyer out the woodwork.

Yeah, was gonna say as Chris has suggested, this may be a special edition - interior pics would confirm. Don't exactly command a premium though! Looks pretty tidy :)

Yes it does have lecky windows, (power windows is written on the buttons lol,) and it has 6 gauge cluster from memory it has a little econ gauge then a fuel gauge below it, then a large rev gauge then a large speedo and strangely it has 2 temp gauges one in hot and cold and one in degrees C :)
and to top it off IT PASSED THE MOT TODAY 340pw

7 YEARS its been parked in that garage needed a battery and gave it a service and i cant belive it flew through.

im growing rather fond of the old girl think you may have a new perminant member of Volvo 300 mania
