My son gona buy a volvo 340 just like his father
the car is from 1982 with a 1.4 engine.
Now the question, i don't know everything, can it run on unleaded fuel
and whice 98 or 95 ron. My car is from 1986 and it's run perfectly on 95
i can use some advice on this
82 *should* use leaded - if i remember right the valve seals need leaded fuel.. that said, i think it could run on unleaded for quite a while before it went wrong, then just swap the engine over
the problem with the 3E and previous engines isnt always the valve seats... rather, the compression is too high for 95 octane. 1983 4E engines, with the contact ignition can used unleaded and indeed you just change the timing. However, previous to this, the compression is too high.... Im still trying to get exact details of which engines can used unleaded....
Check the engine number and type ie B14 4E, or 3E etc from the plate on the block.
For the moment Im running Volvo 66s ( B13 ) and volvo 343 B14 1E on castrols Valvemaster with Octane boost. This is a phosphorous based additive with octane booster so the fuel is 98 octane. You add this additive to the standard unleaded fuel.......
Alternatively (if pinking due to over-advanced timing for your octane rating is the problem), just run 98 octane fuel. That's what Pettaw does with his high compression B200.
