Not an easy task tho as the clutch was currently a foot away from the bell housing with the timing belt cover leaning on the radiator!!
The previous owner had tried to take the engine out to change the clutch, leaving the prop and bell housing in the normal positions. They managed to get the engine out, but could not get it bavk in, so this is the condition i had the car in.
The car had been stood since December at the latest with the bonnet open and no filter box on.
Basically the first thing to do was to get the engine out from the car. Once that was done, the prop was removed along with the bell housing. Then the engine lowered back into place and clutch re alligned and de rusted!!! (Dont ask)
Next the reassembly of a box of bits that i didnt even take of began!! Along with a washing up bowl full of the relavent nuts, bolts & clips etc. The car had to be reassembled before we knew if it was worth carrying on!!
Once the engine was in, it would turn over, using a bar on the bottom pulley. However once removing the plugs to change them i noticed that the bores were full of water!!!
We needed to use only the parts we had to get the car going o see what needed to be done to it.
Amazingly once everything was coupled up she started!!! i couldn't believe it, the first time i turned the key, the solenoid on the starter didnt free so the starter didnt engage the flywheel, so a small tap later i turned the key and she started!!!
My Grandad who has been working on Volvo's for around 45 years and 300's since they came out couldn't believe it!!
Shows what type of stick these cars can be put through!!!
Cheers Adam

Sorry for bad pick, taken with my phone!!!
