changing oil in front shocks

I put 3 inch lowering blocks on the back and cut front springs and front is bouncing like s**t. I read that changing to gearbox oil in front shocks could help. But I also read that there was two types of shocks and you couldn't refill one of them? The car is 360 2.0 '87. It is BOGE on shock. It has rubber cover all around shock rod. Perhaps someone has photo of older ones and newer? And are they both refillable?

Well it is going to with cut springs.

When you undo the top nut it will be obvious. If there is a cartridge inside then you only option will be to replace with an uprated damper.

If it is open then you can drain out the oil and refill

I put out one of the front struts and when I unbolted top bolt which holds shock it comes from strut and it is seales. So I can't change oil for that shock? Also I noticed that the shock goes down easily but goes up hard. Is that OK? Bump stop seems to be dead. What height I should put in if I cut 3 coils?

Help! Tomorrow i intend to buy two new front shock cartridges, KYB brand for my 86 GLT. I hope they will fit, i haven`t dismantled yet the old ones (BOGE brand). I don`t know what lenght the poly-rubber bush that slides on shock should be (i have two new ones from another car- aprox 12 cm, but i don`t want to fit them wrong- too long).

If they are 340/360 inserts then they will fit.

The bump stop is around 75mm

Thank you @classicswede ! So far so good, i bought Sachs super touring and i`ve changed them- althought they were 7cm shorter in travel (i`ve cut the springs).
The car feels ok, but my steering rack don`t. It makes horrible noises on a bumpy road, on the driver side. I`ve tightened the adjusting screw (the one that slides onto a spring) by the point that i can hardly steer. But the noise and hits in the floor pan are present. sm2 what is wrong, what can i do? On the green books i haven`t noticed to be some bushings mounted at the end of the rack (left-right). I also have the old steering rack from my late GLE, but by hand it`s seems to do the same (from my memory it worked ok, but i don`t want to waiste a couple of hours in order to
change them, and find that is not ok).
Ona site from my country, a pas steering rack is quoted for 250 E, and a non pas like mine almost 450 E...

Could it be that the extra stiffness and all that bouncing around has killed off your engine mounts?

Just a thought

Nope, it has been acting like this for the last year. The thing is while i was doing the suspension "business", i had to disconnect the long threaded bar attached to the rack via end track rod (i`m sorry but i don`t know the exact name of the parts). And that was the moment i saw that all the banging was coming from the steering rack- i push /pulled it and then i saw/ feel the way it was doing. Both engine mounts are ok, and even the seering rack itself is bolted tight to the under frame. :360:

That was the hard way of disconnecting the steering!

I only have RHD steering racks, try asking volvomania if he has any rebuilt LHD racks available on exchange?
