Torque reaction/brake reaction rods

Morning girls,

Pesky TR rods, the ones that corrode in the cone bushes and people force M std. Nuts on instead of M fine.

I'm looking at the possibility of refurbishment - but what call would there actually be??

One of my "regulars" has suggested replacing the damaged bush land and thread with a manufactured replacement (threaded each end) that would screw into the end of the rod (retained by metal glue).

I'm thinking EN 16 T would be fine - almost all forces are along the axis of the rod with little or no bending moment.

Initial approaches by my contact suggests around £20.00 each rod (ex works). I appreciate P&P costs might be a bit due to weight so by the time the rod have been back and forth you would probably be looking at £60.00 a pair.

I will persue this IF there is any life in the idea.

Comments, suggestions, bugger offs, and any f***ed rods greatly appreciated.

Sod trying to help people!

Due to product liability issues I shall no longer be involved in any part research or production.



I shall take up collecting toenail clippings (my own only of course)!

How bad do they have to get to be scrap? Here's mine after spraying (and falling on the floor when wet).

It sounds like the only way to fixed them, but they are very common and relatively easy to get compared with other items.

I did get a spare set that are less wasted, but the seller damaged one of the threads taking it off.

If you are going to put it in a lathe to drill + tap the centre, you may aswell weld it up and recut it. Much less concern there with design and material changes.

Mac,

I wouldn't bother with these just yet.
There are still plenty to go around and like McP wrote there are more urgent problems for these cars than you can collect toe nail clippings in a year.
What might be a good idea is to start collecting good ones and get them blasted / painted for an exchange service later on.

My "regular" eventually found a pair himself in a local (Devon) scrappy.

But don't worry I've learned my lesson.

Well Mac, to be honest, I have given up looking for bits "by public cry".
You are one of the exceptions asking for bits and giving accurate info but I've seen ads where people ask for a heater relay box of a 340 not stating what year,......or for a carburettor of a 340 (no enginetype, year,...)

I myself nowadays tend to ask people directly to find out what they have or whether they know of something. Much more successfull.
