Hey together,

I want to buy a 340 1,7ltr.
What attention should be paid to?
Are there any problems with the engine (Oil, Drivebelt, Carb)

Best regards M.

I think they're fairly tough engines had a 440 with one and the only problem I had was a clogged fuel filter, never had one in a 340 though. Oil can leak into the distributor cap causing ignition problems.

Yes I hate them.

Uniquely;
Carbs have leaky plastic floats
Disty is on the back of the head with little oil sealing to the cam. Bad ones need new cam.
Carb based warps badly casuing air leaks

Watchout for bad running, tickover, and stalling on acceleration.

I like the 1.7 engine myself and the 2ltr 400 series engine that is the same.

The rear cam seals do leak but are not hard to change.

The dizzy cap is held down with silly flat head machine screws, once you have removed them change them for standard M6x1 bolts

Carb are well know for air leaks and warping, even the manifold can warp. I've never had issues with warped carbs on mine but hassle with the throttle flaps jambing open. I binned my carb in favour of a 240 throttle body with a home made adaptor

The rocker covers can also be a pain for leaking oil and the gasket is tricky to get fitted correctly

How often do you change the drive belt.
Mine is 90000Kilometers old.

If history not know just replace it. Not worth loosing a engine over a £10 part and a hours work
