Twin Exhaust Conversion

I'm thinking of fabricating a Twin Exhaust for the B200k 360, with a pipe on both sides! I'd split the pipe into two after the rear silencer, and have a pipe coming straight out on both sides - as opposed to the angled pipe at present! I'd then fill the rear valance with fiberglass and smooth over!

However as i am studying Mechanical Engineering at Uni, Thermodynamic and Fluid Dynamic can show that altering the flow of gas, can effect the performance, which i dont wanna do, that's unless it improves the performance!

Any Thoughts?

Wow you have the original Volvo bodykit? sm66

I know, got it from a scrap yard of a 360 GLT. Have the side skirts too, but ahvent fitted them yet! So what do you think of the Conversion idea?

shouldnt limit stuff, as you've twice the potential airflow. i doubt it'll benefit much mind. where does the air go into that silencer? very different setup to mine..

To be honest, I don't think it will improve the performance of your car... after all the articles I read about that! I would be happy if someone could prove to me the opposite....

As a look improvement, i'm sure it's a good idea in combination with the bodykit!!

The input and output of the silencer are both on the same side of the silencer for the B200 K & E, I'll take a pic and post it!

Nice drawing! I wont bother with the pic, and i didnt want to do the conversion for more power, just for the looks, the only performance thoughts were if it limited power! An addition in power is only a bonus. I'll keep you all informed with pics and what not of my fabrication!

I was thinking that when i get round to the exhaust i was going to make it a straight through design with a straight through, perforated core mufflers, a second one if its too loud or sounds crap, you might be familiar with the flowmaster design or a resonator(aka hotdog muffler)? but i wouldnt suggest 2 pipes on a 4 banger unless its really churning power or want to look different, if its just the looks then see if you cant find a rear muffler that splits the exhaust into 2 pipes, much lighter and cheaper with the same end appearance to a spectator.

This is what inspired the Twin Exhaust Conversion...

is it actually a t5 that - not a t4?? (old s40s only came in t4..)

Yep T5, as far as i know they have scrapped the T4, and the V50 and S40 both come with T5 engines - and hence twin exhausts...

Most of the new 40/50 series cars have 4 cylinder engines, but the T5s are...well...5 cylinder!

If you take a split off the pipe AFTER the rear muffler, it'll do bugger all to the power....but it won't flow much gas either (you must be able to work that out better than I can, Mr Mech Eng ;)).

I'd take out that daft '360 degree turn' at the front of the rear box, which is almost certainly there to boost backpressure (and therefore midband torque). In fact, I'd split the pipe before the rear axle, and take it back to two rear mufflers and 3-4" tips :)

cheers

i think side pipes are the way to go! that way you avoid the gearbox and back axel same problem with capris (less gearbox obvioously) they also look and sound great!!! :D
