Hello chaps,
I'm currently restoring a Renault 4 but the engine is junk. Sourcing a Renault 4/5 engine is proving expensive but I've got a question google can't seem to answer:
Is the B14 the same as the early Renault 5 engine (and therefore, the 4)? IE would it bolt directly up to the renault 4 transverse gearbox?
I'm not able to find an accurate photo to match up to this one to see if the bolt patterns are the same - is anyone able to confirm from looking at the above if it looks "about right"?
Found a picture of Anjo's turbo setup. Bolt pattern from this angle at least seems good?
I'm also thinking that this engine spins the wrong way to my 850cc. Dang, back to square one. Sorry to waste your times! If any Renault geeks maybe have any ideas they'd be much appreciated.
Second problem is the cylinder head. The water pumps are mounted at different ends of the head. To mount a water pump at the flywheel end of a head with the water pump at the timing chain end (e.g. Volvo) will require some material removing at the radiator end (L-shaped piece at the bottom left) p2080013 by macplaxton, on Flickr
and some material adding to the flywheel end. (building up a L-piece at the bottom right) p2080012 by macplaxton, on Flickr
otherwise the pump won't flow properly.
So two choices: Keep the Billancourt engine and corresponding box, or if you go down the Cléon route, find a matching box and beware the water pump mounting (amongst other things such as 'box length, rad mounting, etc.)
