well the 300 is rear wheel drive, the 480 is front, so i would suggest no..
however, theres nothing to stop you trying

That would have been me then
Out of your list you want....
engine, ecu, loom
The g/box, shafts and calipers aren't any good to you. We've recently found out that the 400 series brakes won't fit.
Do keep us updated of your progress!
cheers

Didnt someone (Janitor?) not have 480 Turbo calipers on his 360?

Not sure, although I think he had mini front calipers on the rear.

im having difficutly finding a 440 turbo lump!
any decent well known volvo breakers around the UK??
i found a 440 turbo auto on ebay, might just buy the whole car and strip it down if thats the case.
im going to get it running stock 1st of all then save up and get it remapped and tune it up etc etc.
i want to be able to hit 200bhp, is that safely possible? i saw huskyracer's site and his hitting 194bhp, but he works for power engineering so his got all these extra tuning goodies on his!
my 340 wnt have them luxuries lol, but it will stil pack i punch i hope
can the 340 rad be used with this conversion, cos my rad at the moment is totally shaggeD!! and i read somewhere that it needs replacing every 3years!
was going to get a 2nd hand for £30, also does the 1.4 rad fit the 1.7?

Erm, where are you? I've heard of a couple near me, Volvo Valley in Ripley and The Salvo Group Ltd in Ilkeston.
LankyTim recommends Mc Guinesses in Tunstall, Stoke.

I can also recommend Steve (Volvo Valley / Volvo Vince) and Salvo. Salvo are expensive, but they'll probably have one.
There are usually 400 series turbo engines on ebay. Remember that you can use one from either a 440, 460, or a 480. It doesn't have to be a manual, but it might make life easier if you need to use the 400 series clutch. That's one to check on Husky's site - did he use the 340 clutch/flywheel, or the 400 series one?
My radiator lasted 17 years, but needed replacing this summer. If you're going for turbo power, you REALLY want to fit the larger 360 radiator. Mine was £85 or so brand new (ordered at one days notice, so with planning, you'll find a better bargain), and it is a Volvo-stamped one, so it's the decent quality stuff. It's probably worth getting the version of the 360 radiator for an air con car, which comes with a tapping for the temperature sender for the 340s electric fan.
Husky went for a programmable ECU because that's what he's used to, and he has the facillities to tune it. As a 'consumer', it's probably easier to buy an off the shelf product, either something like a Superchip (not worth it for a naturally aspirated engine, but works well for a turbo car), or investigate the stuff the 480 guys have been working on. IIRC, they can offer you a drop-in 'kit' which sees you up over 200bhp without any mechanical alterations. It's probably not the 'rounded' package that Husky's car is, but it's a lot easier.

Hello people! @ 340 singh : to answer some of your questions, you need a 440/60/80 engine, loom and brain. you need to use the 400 series flywheel as it has the correct tooth pattern for the ecu. you can use any one of the 300 series radiators, I ran mine on the 1.4 rad and only changed it cause it started to leak. Bear in mind though, the 360 ones dont have the hole for the fan switch. You will need to use the 300 sump, engine mounts and belhousing, then the engine will drop straight in, you will need also to swap the clutch centre plate for one with a 300 spline pattern, if you get an early 400 engine with the 200mm clutch you can use the stock 1.7 300 plate. if not you will have to have somthing made
I did get your email but I think I have covered everything, if not P.M. me

i thoguht all post-86 cars had the same radiator? albeit with/without a tapping for a heat sensor

I think your right mate, I've just bought a 360 rad thinking it would be larger capacity but It looks the same as the 1.4 rad but without the temp sensor hole

there was a thinner radiator on the later 1.4's (saving)
1.7 = 2L aircon = also fitted on mkII 1.4
2L non-aircon = same as above, without sensor thread.
a diesel rad. has the highest cooling capacity! (same size but more, smaller water pipes)

2L aircon has the sensor bung in a different place to the 1.7/1.4 which are identical
