Well as most of you will have heard by 2 ltr 340 engine died sm54 the other day, thanks to some c##t spraying water allover it.

Image

If you look closely you can see water in the intake port. The manfold was full and the combustion chambers were full of water. When Vicky removed the plugs and tured it over the engine sprayed water everywhere. It was so badly soaked even the oil had a lot of water in it!!

When I had a look around for a replacment 2ltr lump and ended up going for a low milage lump from Keith (drivesavolvo)

It does look very clean

the water jackets are shiney clean and

intake and exaust ports are much the same.

The other interesting bit is this oil cooler

I'll plum that in at a later date.

The new engine started up well and sounds very tight. I'll take for a spin later and see how she drives.

The book figure is 110bhp. I have a free flow exhaust and air filter to add to that. I'm still running the std prob with no problems. Just dont every try and make the wheels spin loose.

Just an extra note on this 2ltr conversion.

You MUST use the 4 series starter motor as the B172 starter does not clear the engine block.
I did not find this untill now as I went for the slim starter because my original one was very tired.
Anyway the one I fitted failed so beibg cleaver I spent ages removing a 1.7 starter only to find it was a no go
