SPAX front dampers

Post by classicswede »

I have been locking at getting the spax front dampers made for some time now. The only problem I have is I do not want to get stuck with a load of them. I will need to have 12 pairs made.

At this point I am looking to see how many ppl are actualy interested. So if you can express an interest and there seems to be enough ppl i will get a 100% confirmed price and we can take it from there.

Ok here is the YES list

I've been meaning to PM you about this Dai. I think you should get them made as adjustables, like the rears. If I could get adjustables all-round, I'd buy a set (so I could relax them out for normal use, or tighten them up for spirited driving :)). I don't want to lumber myself with an expensive setup which has ruined my ride quality.

cheers

I just did ;) I'd agree with Foggy, I don't want to ruin my ride quality either - I'd be very interested if its possible to maintain a decent ride with stiff handling.

I'd be keen, I want Kar sorted all round, as long as no money changes hands for a month or so, spent too much on it this month :(

forgive my ignorance but adjustable what, for the front? spring pans or shock pressure?
I always thought shocks simply controlled rebound of spring so ride quality should be more down to springs than shock-simply fit quality shocks so they can handle the extreme rebound of high poundage, therefore stiff, springs :?

Sven,

That's certainly the conventional wisdom, and in an ideal world you'd match shock valving to spring rate...but...spring rates for 300s are a bit of a (potentially expensive) leap into the unknown. I'm tempted to fit coilovers so I can vary the spring rate cheaply.

On top of this Griz's 940 Estate has generic 'a little bit lower, a little bit stiffer' fairly cheapo springs, and Bilstein Sport shocks (I'm sure you don't need telling that that's top dollar stuff)...and the result is amazing. It's like a go-kart, but without sacrificing the ride quality to a noticable extent (although a big anti-roll bar and polybushes seem to have made it noticably harder).

Another example is Dai's car. AFAIK it's running stock front shocks with lowering springs, and stock rear springs with adjustable shocks. A bit of a hotch-potch, to be honest, but it obviously bloody works!

If we can work on a package that hangs together nicely, incorporating stiffer, lower springs, I don't think anyone will say no. It's the leap into the unknown that is worrying.

I learned the hard way with my (badly tuned for mid-range...hence the problem) sidedrafts that performance and smooth cruising don't necessarily go hand in hand. I'd love to improve the handling, but I need to retain the majority of the ride quality, since this is a daily driven car - much of it on the motorway.

cheers

I'm interested in upgrading my entire suspension set up as discussed - I like the idea of adjustability all round too

I would love a set, but I think it may be a bit more than I can afford!

However, I'll probably be after a pair of stiffer springs sometime in the new year...

Im interested in a set if the price is near to the price quoted for the rear Spax kit you offer Dai, as my front shocks have had it. I think if you get them made they would definatley sell.
