All this activity is proving too much for my poor, under-used, old 340. :( Today I had to wait at the lights with some impatient buggers behind me because I couldn't get her to go into drive.

I noticed the poor thing was holding far too many revs on the engine while stopped and in neutral. Maybe a sticking throttle as I know you can't engage drive when your foot's on the accelerator. Or is it likely to be something going on in the drivetrain.

Sometimes there's a noticeable engagement of the gearbox when drive or reverse is selected, which I don't think should happen with the vario system, unlike a standard auto transmission where you expect to feel the gears engage.

Any diagnoses welcome.

Why were you having to change into Drive at lights!?

Did you change into Neutal while stopped or something?

Just checking, you also know it won't go into drive/reverse in some positions? So you may have to roll a little to achieve another position where it lets you put it in, you may have experienced this with parking!

Yes, I moved it into neutral at the lights. Mostly this is because it seems to idle better with netural engaged at the moment. My real problem is that it keeps on holding too many revs on the engine, and consequently refusing to go into Drive. I don't know whether this will be solved by regular service items or if it's something to do with the array of vacuum parts, but I suppose I'll have to become familiar with these sooner or later. I've ordered the usual service bits and I'll give it a go after Christmas, then I'll report back afterwards.
