Road Trip

Post by Ronnie »

I've finally got some pictures taken of my old mk2 3 door GLT:

Just done 1000 miles in cold weather, so not polished up like it should be. Drove faultlessly. Kept us warm and safe. Handled the Highland roads perfectly. That car handles so much better than my mk3's. Less weight I think has much to do with it.

Nearly got taken out by a Saxo at a roundabout in Inverness when some idiot decided to side swipe me sm2

Not for the first time, I went for the horn and missed due to those silly little buttons on the wheel. I think I need a mk3 wheel to fix this problem - will it bolt straight in?

Unfortunately I reversed into a post shortly after the mountain pictures were taken

I think I bent the bumper valance slightly otherwise no real damage - will get it ironed out soon. Only other event was a helpful letter from the Northern Constabulary pointing out that I was driving at 72mph in a 60mph zone... Thankfully they never put cameras on the dual carriageway sections of the A9 or they might have recorded somewhat higher speeds than that  I've gotten away with speeding for twenty odd years so I guess I had it coming.

Cheers folks

Oh man, them pictures have just made me realise what a beautiful example of a mk2 that is. I thought it went for a fair price on ebay, but worth every penny imo. I also love that colour!! Great pics!

EDIT: These pictures also own Hughs pictures of his 340 in Europe ;)

Cheers guys!

Steve: I thought I was paying too much for it, was a case of heart over head. Glad you think she was worth it!

Cornholio: That's Ratagan on the old road to the Isles between Sheil Bridge & Glenelg. All traffic between Skye and the mainland used to go over there a long time ago. It used to be graded as the most advanced road in the UK before a load of EU money was spent doing it up. I learnt to drive on that road, and ones like it

Adam: Glad you approve, will look even better with that grill you've knocked up for me :)

Fantastic pics. That really is a lovely car. It was quite a lot of money as purchase prices go, but I spent nearly as much on repairs on both of mine this year, and how often do you see a mk2 in that kind of shape? All things are relative! Compare briefly to the finance payments on a bland eurobox...

cheers

The first couple of shots on the flat has Loch Ness in the background, sans monsters unfortunately :D - a fresh water loch, like a lake only more Scottish!

The ones shot in the mountains have Loch Duich in the background - which is a sea loch - like a fjord only more Scottish!

Ah yes - I was meaning to ask where that name had come from - thought it was because she was a bit of a monster when first acquired :D

You're lucky she's still alive - highland cars rot pretty fast in my experience!
