Just been reading Haynes-wtf?-is that right 80/90 hypoid gaearoil for auto but ATF for the man box?
Sounds weird but could be plausible cos me yank with man trans uses ATF(something to do with the needle rollers).
If anyone knows for sure let me know 'cos I'd better check the levels before the little jolly jaunt.
Final drive would seem correct 90 grade hypoid

Hi.
I have changed the gearoil in my tranny, but I think I have replaced it with some wrong ATF.
I have filled it with Shell DONAX ATF TYPE F, and I have seen that both HAYNES and Volvo says ATF TYPE A Suffix A.
I have been around the web to find out the difference between TYPE A and TYPE F, and TYPE A is a friction modified oil, and TYPE F is a non-friction modified oil.
The problem is that when the tranny gets hot (say after 50 miles of highway driving) it get's had to engage any of the gears.
My questions is: What ATF type and brand do you guys use?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

NO, I have had it with this #%&#/

ATF TYPE F oil...
I asked a Volvo garage boss, and he said that I could use ATF TYPE F oil... Yeah right
I will change the oil this weekend, but I have still not found a TYPE A, suffix A brand here in Denmark. It's avalible, but only in 100L cans.. I just need about 3L !!!

I asked a Volvo garage boss, and he said that
--> never assume that garage people are right in whatever they say. technical manuals aren't there for nothing....
specific knowledge about certain models/types fades away slowly, even at the volvo dealers.
Even over here (netherlands) I would not bet on a successful repair on any CVT version, at any given volvo dealership. they are just as clueless as to how it works and how it has to be fixed as generic garages....

Hi all.
I have bought some Castrol TQ ATF Type A, Suffix A oil today.
The guy in the store asked me if it was for a vintage car....

NOO!!)/&@£€{]
He hadn't sold a bottle of that in years, so it was cheap.. I bought 4L for about 15£ (20€).
I will change it this weekend and I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
Regards.
