Spax -40mm front springs?

Post by Tero Huikko »

Does anybody know the true height of Spax springs? They are marked "340/360 -40mm" but from what spring?

B14 -1978 336mm
B14 1978-1983 350mm
B14 1984- 361mm
D16 1984- 357mm
B19A 1983 339mm
B19A 1984 326mm
B19E 1983-1984 308mm
B200K 1985- 339mm
B200E/F (GLS/GLE)326mm
B200E/F GLT 308mm

These are the alternatives...

As I undersatnd they are based on the GLT springs and should sit 40mm lower than a GLT did when it rolled off the line. The problem now is most 300's have sagged by about 40mm!!!!!!!!!
I make springs to give a set ride height so you can chose how you want it to sit.

Yup, I've noticed that "most of them have indeed"... just replaced the originals with new ones and the car is now nose up :)

How come the back leafs also sag the same amount? The car was dead straight before I replaced the fronts?

umm...you "make springs"? How you want me to measure the ride height? What's the price on these made springs?

The rears dont normaly sag asmuch as the front.
You need to measure as per the drawing. The lowest you can go is 300mm without modifying the strut.

They are £50 a pair plus delivery. I need to know what engine you have aswell to calculate the spring.

Thanks. The engine is B200F. What would you recommend? Is 300mm too low for a daily driver? wheels are 175/65R14x5.5 winter and 195/50R15x6 summer with the winter tyres being 11mm bigger in diameter.

I would then need a set of lowering blocks for back leafs too. I suppose you make them too?

What is the distance in the photo? 300mm? Seems a little too low...and looks like the wheel could touch the mudguard if cornering heavy?

Does the made lowering spring sit still when front wheels are lifted (as in MOT check) because if they move freely then it's a reject . . .

The car in the picture is at the 300mm - running on 185/60/14 tyres.

When you go that short you do need to clamp the springs to stop them dropping out when you lift off!

The tyres do not touch because the spring is very stiff. Is to low is you drive rough roads.

I do also do the rear lowering blocks.

Have a look in "offer"

Have a look at "performance parts cat"

Cheers

Thanks again...I wouldn't want to clamp the springs. is it difficult to measure the lowest possible spring without modifications to the attachment or the need for clamping? If the clamps or any other similar patent is found at MOT it's not good at all.

Basically I need to lower the car to maintain more balance at higher speeds.
80mph and upwards.

Ideas for height? If the 300mm is too low would 320mm make any difference? I'll have to measure the distance now and approximately the distance I'm looking for...

If you work out the height you want I'll make sure the spring will hold in with no clamps on std dampers. 320mm should be possible still with a stiff spring.

I'm hoping to build a set of front coilovers (probably for Nessy) as soon as I have some time and a spare pair of struts to play with. I'm hoping to use Bilstein inserts...if the bank manager will let me :D

cheers
