just looking at a few of the newer members websites and, was shall we say somewhat surprised ,and a bit concerned
it appears people are joining here purely to provide links to hardcore porn and viagra sales sites ,
you can usually tell the ones to avoid because 9 times out of 10 they join but either dont post at all or only post once or twice

must admit I hadnt spotted greenvans site before which is quite interesting
in a purely motoring way

Yeah Mick, you're right - god knows why. Any of the ones I've seen I've told Aymat about. But thats as much use as a chocolate saucepan.

It's some new crap happening with phpbb, our Kitesurf club site has had a new one or two members like that everyday for a while, I'll see if phpbb have realised a patch yet, as I'm guessing it's automated

I have emailed Duvel about this problem , will post his reply,
it do's seem to be on the increase,

the "members " with dodgy websites ( and no other apparent reason for joining the forum ) so far seem to be as follows

lisica

and of course the biggest perv of the lot 5lab but at least hes harmless

Hmm, registration should have this random keycode thing, otherwise bots can be used. Was is called captcha or what, can't remember.

It is available as plugin for any forum software, I think.

I am going to contact you about this Aymat, the forum I run has lots of these joining, I manually deleted them a week ago, and theres another 10 or so now

I think they are there to push up ratings in googles rating system, with the most links google finds pointing at a site meaning its highest rated

Right, I've cobbled together a fix from a few differnt bits, I'm currently getting 3-4 new spam users a day on this other forum, so lets see if this fix works...

Yeah... Time to fight against that, I'm reading all the topics on PhpBB forums about that problem... As I said to Chris, the visual confirmation is enabled on the forum since the beginning, that means that some bots are really smart now...

The changes I've done to the forum I run have seemed to work, I only had the bot that opens an account and posts a website, they never posted a message, and did a few changes to the php to stop them from working. I've told Aymat how I did it, and he's showed me another way, I reckon I'll have both implemented soon, keeps ahead of the game!
