Went along to a Magazine shoot for Retro Cars at Bruntingthorpe Airfield for an article entitled 1980's Exective alternatives to the BMW or Mercedes of the day.

So there was a

Lancia Thema 16v Turbo
Fiat Chroma 8v Turbo
Renault 21 8v Turbo
Nissan Bluebird 8v Turbo
Citroen CX25 8v Turbo
Audi 200 Quattro 10v Turbo
and me in the Volvo 740 8v Turbo

We first off all did the group shots as pictured above.

Then it was an indvidual shot of each person with there car under the airplane, so whilst this took place i decided to check out my favourite car of the day there. The Citroen.

Image

This thing was damm cool and so damm comfortable. I've allways loved citroens quirky designs.

We then headed off round the airfield to the start of the 2 mile Airfield to do indivual shots of the car, including engine pics, interior pics, 3/4 quarter shots and other shots, and we were also interviewed each a bit on our cars.

Image

We then headed out for some rolling shots on the runway with all the cars abrest doing around 30mph with 2ft between us each whilst the photographer took pics about 2ft in front of us. I will get some of the photographer's pictures as i saw them on his laptop afterwards and they were amazing, plus i hope the magazine article will have some great shots.

Then the photographer positioned himself on the hairpin before the main straight for some action shots, so doing my best Stig from top gear impression i kept unsettling the car as much as possible into the corner.

We then were given free rain of the track and i just went out and did lap after lap of the circuit improving my technique as it was my first time on any circuit.

The Volvo performed fautless except the petrol i bought locally was utter ****e, i ended up going down to about 10psi from 15-16psi as the detonation was terrible. Still managed 130mph (GPS verified Speed) on the main straight as the speedo was showing around 135mph.

All in all a great day out.

Here's a little bit of the vid my bro filmed whilst i was doing a few laps.

All i can say is i need more power and a LSD.

Chesh, excellent work allround! Nice bit of drift at speed there in the second vid, like the 'huh' comment from the cameraman! Nice pics too, looking forward to the magazine, let us know when it's out, I'll be buying a copy for sure.

nice work m8, as some of you know I once owned a cx although it was the famillie (8 seater estate ) it did have the 2.5 lump (not turbo ) with two coils instead of a distributor like the escort rs 1600i, but it was certainly no slouch and the ride was fantastic , I still see it sometimes around mk , strangely enough (and at the risk of being beaten with rubber coshes by all the other form members ) I also like the bluebird
