To london! (unleaded)

Post by deleted »

Hello,

Im coming to london(and others) in about 10 days time for a bit, which is why i am selling my volvo! :/

However, i am having trouble doing so, first of all i am in a different state to where the car is. Though someone is interested, they claim that my car is leaded and walk away.

I am sure it is not, but i cannot do much about it 1000km away.

its a late 86 with b200ea.

how can you prove that is an unleaded car??

Wasnt there somthing about black rockercovered volvos being unleaded?

This is basically the sale point for the car, and is the reason i bought it. The people have said that it specifies in the manual that my car is leaded, and as i cannot see the manual over here. I cannot say otherwise.

What can i do?

Though perhaps it is for your greater advantage that i keep the car, however the new owner would likely be a young female!

Poor little beast,

anyway, it was nice knowing you guys.
tghanks for the help

I would say, based on the engine code B200EA that its unleaded fuel. According to my green statistics book, if its a B200EA its low compression and it should also have a catalytic convertor.

As I said in some other topic of the same subject. Volvo engines with aluminium heads don't nead leaded fuel as they all got hardened valve seats. All Volvo OHC engines are designed to work with unleaded. High octane is reccomended though with higher compression engines.

What comes to manuals, they don't say that it needs unleaded. Even green covered Volvo Repair manuals say that all OHC engines work with unleaded.. :P

Sorry, I was unclear, you're right all engines from 1981 ish have hardened seats, but they still need the high octane fuel to work correctly. Trust me, they ping if the octane isn't high enough ;)

Erm, anyway B200EA says low compression and therefore 95 octane unleaded should be fine. It also says the Aussie versions have a catalysor. Is that correct? Green books can sometimes be misleading.

That's what I mean't. :P I just thought that I'll add some more info so it will be easier to proof that it doesn't need leaded. And you are right, definately high octane for high compression or turbo.. I use 98RON in both. :P

All "VOLVO" engines from the B18 will run on unleaded without modification to the cylinder head or additives. Tried and tested.

On the note of the cat I know a number of Range Rovers are coming from OZ (2000 - 2002 ish) with no lambda probe and no cats!!
