Mac (the seller) is active on this board too - so it's only fair he gets the price for all his juicey gear which the market sets. I think it's fair enough conspiring to get 300 bits dirt cheap off non v3m members, but we need to respect members trying to make a few quid in my opinion.

What do other people think about this?

In my opinion there are two ways to look at it really,

on one hand

by not bidding against each other ( as we have all agreed in the past )
it keeps prices down and people dont get carried away bidding against each other to a silly inflated price.

random hero still has the non v3m members to contend with and those members who dont abide by the forums ebay agreement.

on the other hand,

Most people have in mind a figure they want for an item they are selling,

Mac ,or any other member for that matter ,could advertise there parts here to a "captive " audience and gaurantee keeping the parts among forum members,

ask the price they want and save on listing and final value fees.

that usually works well and you dont have to wait 7 days for the listing to end.

(take my buying foggys brand new in the box never used taxi meter for example )

Hm, i must agree with both of you but i posted it here because of the 'not bidding against each other' principe.

I can't speak for Mac, but i think the starting bid is already a nice price for that kit. But let's see how it ends.

Hmm. Well if the seller is unrelated with us, it does seem fair to not out bid each other, however is a first come first served fair? If someone has been hunting for a part for years, but can only check the bay every couple days getts beaten by one of those lazy student types who have nothing to do except search ebay ;) They may not want the part as much.

I know most people here are fair enough to pass some of these onto someone else who wants them more, and I guess life aint fair.

As for forum members, as Mick says, if the parts are posted here with a reasonable asking price we can work out between us who getts it. keeps it in the community as well.

I must admit i check the bay quite frequently, and i'm a student  But i am looking for this gauge and especially the sensor for a long time. I hardly ever buy stuff on ebay that i don't really need. Plus i should pay the postage to Holland which is as much as the item itself.

Mick, that reminds me! Do you want your brackets back, or shall I get my backside in gear when I get five mins and find someone to reproduce them? Sorry about the delay mate, it's been a while!

Black sheep ???

Post by mac »

Oh dear Oh dear, havn't been a member for 5 mins and already I seem to be the 'black sheep'. I seem to be upsetting the cartel !!, by the crime of posting items on the bay.

OK - facts:- When I started e-baying I was not a member of V3M - it was contact though the bay that led me here (even though I no longer have a 340 at present)

If my only wish was to maximise my return on items I have collected over nearly 30 years - why did I join ??
Not every 300 owner is a member of V3M - why deny potential members the chance to obtain hard to find parts ??

Whilst I do not run a 340 at present (I have a 940 Turbo estate and the wife has a '97' 440GS) I think the 300 series is one of the most underrated vehicle from any manufacturer full stop. I am also long term Volvo enthusist and until I retired I worked as an investigative engineer for Volvo Car - I have been to Helmond and the Born factory many times.
I am a long term member of the Volvo owners club and in the late 70's my custom CF van ran a B28 volvo fuel injected V6 !! - so please don't think I am only inerest in the profit motive.

What I can offer is a lot of tech.info. and 30 years of experience and I will do whatever I can to help any other member. If its info I can e-mail or just another viewpoint on a problem. This costs nothing !! I am already trying to help some of you (ask 990).

I am truly sorry if my posting MY items on the bay offends anyone - but I live in the real world - and an auction is a resonably fair way of doing business. I actually find your cartel a little offensive !

Well the problem will go away soon as I don't have an unlimited supply of goodies - perhaps some of you expect me to cancel my membership but sorry I'm here to stay. Perhaps in the future I'll run another 300 and I at least won't bitch about buying parts from wherever I need !!

OK I've had my bitch (at the risk of offending more of you).

PS don't be so damned patronising about students !!!

Regards to all of you (should be us), and expecting to be flamed.
MAC.

I think you're being a little unfair to us Mac.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with you putting items on E-bay to try and maximise your market.

But IMO there's also nothing wrong with us having a gentleman's agreement not to outbid each other for parts and ending up paying more than we need to.

We welcome anybody with knowledge to bring to our forum here and that's what this forum is all about, to help each other out with our Volvos and to increase everybody's knowledge through working as a community.

There are plenty of regular posters who don't run 300s but come and join in the banter and I hope you'll do the same.
