Where does the sender fit? I can't see anything that looks like the right sized hole anywhere?

also, where does it connect to the instrument panel? I know hugh said there are a pair of spades tied to the loom, but my car would seem to suggest otherwise!

any help would be greatly appreciated

the sender fits in a hole in the side of the drivers side bumper mounting horn ( if that makes any sense at all )and there wer deffinately two wires behind the dash on the redline

I think you might struggle to find a pair of 'loose' wires, they'll be there somewhere but I had to cut into mine on the saloon - can't remember what colour they were now, brown and grey/black stripe? I think...

just been out and checked ,

my wires were one brown and one black, they both end in a spade connector with a plastic cover .

Mine were actually in the engine bay on the drivers side,just poking through the rubber grommet that the rear screen washer pipe go's through the only other wire going through there was a red one .

So Dave if you have more than one red wire coming through that grommet , it may be worth tracing them forward as sometimes the a/t sender wires are taped up in the engine bay ( I believe ,under the air filter on some models )

ok, result, there where no spade connectors visible anywhere, and so we've spliced into the loom after tracing back from the 4 pin connector on the pod. The wires are to pins 1 and 7, a black/white cable and a brown cable.

I went into the horn from the other side, because it was easier, didn't require taking the bumper off, and my great cluster of pork sausages attatched to my wrist aren't particularly suitable for going through the vent cover either!

works fine, goes up with a hairdryer on it and down when sprayed with compressed gas

Why didn't they do some sort of standardised wiring for such things! I'm quite confident in saying all 360 GLT's after approx 86 should have the wires already plumbed in and tied up in a bunch under the air filter housing, very difficult to find, but they are there, and it has a connector on the end, ready to accept the sensor.

Yours in the Redline was an odd one Mick, as you say I think they were at the bulk head, but they were the wrong spade connectors, male instead of female or vice versa, so I used some I had from the silver saloon.

I spent ages looking for spade connectors tied up under the dash originally, only to find that they'd never be there in a GLT. 340's tend to differ quite a bit though, so you might be lucky and find something, or you may not!

Try under the battery tray, that's where mine were on the 360 GLT 88 plate

it's only a sender unit, and it's well proteced from the elements!

the test was only to prove it goes up and down, I'm pretty sure it wasn't 18 degrees c outside my house anyway!

i am very fond of the way it goes from 0 to full then back to settle at it's resting position on ignition

Hey porsches do that when you start them up

On my 88 GLT they were under the airbox taped up, on the 87 saloon they certainly weren't - had to splice into the wires behind the dashboard.
