I'm looking for a 340, 1.4L as my first car, I was wondering if anyone knew of one in good condition in this area? I am a student , so i can't afford a very expensive one.
Thanks

Good choice in looking into buying a 340

I had already seen that one, but wasn't 100% sure. To be honest i was looking for something a little cheaper (if possible) and from that ad the owner didn't seem like he was going to be that flexible.
I am willing to look further away from this area, if anyone is looking to sell.
Thanks again

keep an eye on ebay - i've had 2 from there for less than £50 each - both were good runners (till i owned them. haha). best thing to look for is at least 6 months mot.

Any more advise about buying on there? Cuz i've heard some dodgy stories and without necessarily being able to check the cars out apart from on photos, i'm a bit apprehensive.
I found a lovely one that went yesterday, that was a 1987 one (the same age as me) and had only done 21,000 miles. It sold for £100, but didn't have an MOT. I was gutted i didn't bid on it though.
Anyway, help would be good in finding one!

If your going to buy on e-bay, go and have a look at it in person, then it's no different to an ad in the paper.
I know it may involve a lot of travel, especially if it turns out to not be right, but you'll make sure you spot any problems which the seller fails to mention and could be a pain in the future.

Unless the car is very cheap, or very desireable I'd always recommend going to see it first when looking on ebay. But if its cheap, a bit of risk can be worthwhile. But then you could end up like me, with a car with holes in the sills
Try ebay, adtrader, autotrader, fish4cars, friday-ad, exchange and mart - they're all pretty good, and free to search on t'internet.

other thing about ebay - get the seller to tell you the condition - if they say its good, you win, and turn up and its a shed, you can walk away without a problem - so you've not lost anything over buying from a paper

I agree with 5lab - check for good feedback, ask as many questions as possible (through ebay rather than email) and request more photos, and if you get up there and it's not what was described, just walk away or negotiate some money off.
I've bought my last 2 cars off ebay without looking at them in the flesh, and both have been fine.
I like adtrader as it has loads of cheap cars - sold and bought quite a few cars through that. Its where I got my 340 and first 360!

A hole in the front wing is nothing to worry about .
I thought the 1.7 was in the same group 5 as a 1.4 ? But group 5 would still be too high insurance for a student to afford if you cant afford 300 notes for the car! I darent suggest an old Fester mk1 with 999cc OHV as being cheaper to run!
regards, Steve
