Hi

I just got a new "Steering Vibration Damper" (according to Mr Haynes).

Volvo call it a "Coupling S/Column"

Anyways, the part arrived because they failed my Warrant of Fitness (similar to MOT. Every 6 months) because my one is currently in two pieces. I thought the steering was a little wobbly

Is there anything you know of that may go wrong? I'm think just unbolt the universal joint from the steering column, then the remainding shaft from the rack, unbolt this bit of rubber and then put it all back together and hopefully I wont have any parts left over!!

I've seen two different items in this location, as well as the 'plain' UJ the PAS cars have, so I'm not quite sure what's what. The most basic type looks dead easy to change - just four bolts.

Access is a bit tight, but yeah just undo the 4 bolts, two at the top and two at the bottom (IIRC) - replace the part and put it back together again.

Will feel like a different car!

Well, It's done.

Access was a PITA and one of the bolts had seized so I ended up removing half of the steering column and putting it in a vise.....

But, it's now back together and seems ok. It does feel like a different car, but it's pissing down with rain/sleet, foggy and cold so I'm not really in the mood to do much more than go around the block.

The old one had nearly sheared in two!

Explains the play the steering wheel had and the slight "Floaty Feeling" it had
