One idiot one solex, part 2

Post by jtbo »

Okay, in first part our series I was giving up with this, but this idiot has some friends and new information gained, of course I have to test if that is reason for these problems I'm having.

Solex carb does have 3 diaphraphs, one accelerator pump, one where is idle jet and one that does some sort of leaning according to airpressure or sometihing.

We take now look into last one, sorry about wrong terms and all that, I'm idiot, remember ;)

Here is nice pic of carb, look that diagraph lid at top right, that one with 4 screws at corners and one at middle, that is our interest now: http://www.janiervast.com/gallery.bk/g2 ... G_3123.JPG

I did take out one from my extra cisac, it had 5 beutiful holes in it, does it work when it has holes? No it does not, I did already order new one as according to someone who fixes these for living, that is number one problem in Cisac carbs, 2nd is floats that drink gasoline and get too heavy, this latter causes flooding, first one causes lean mixture I believe, but that is not confirmed.

New part 5€, postage 10€, full repair kit 100€ includes floats(35€), prices in Finland and here is one shop that sells these, not two just one.

That diagraph is not easy to replace, it is glued to plastic arm, so I need to remove old and glue new back in, will be interesting.

Only one question is in my mind now, what to do with that screw that is in middle?
Is there some setting mentioned in factory books?

Ok, that was two questions

I took out carb again, checked float chambers, there were odd white spheres, which became liquid when I took them out, were almost like quicksilver when put on surface that was not straight, had no idea what those were, also there was dirt, but from where, I had no idea.

I did check how my carb base was and it had slightly warped.

Then I made carb base straight again.

Also cleaned every hole with compressed air afterwards.

Took also some photos:

Sorry that there is no picture from completed stage, I did run out of time there...

It runs very differently now, I do believe that I need to adjust it again, that I must do tomorrow. Also there was something wrong with throttle, it seems not to close fully, must look more into that too, maybe some spring needs adjustment.

Little test drive with not adjusted carb was not very cheerful, when I pushed throttle it started stutter a lot but it got better in 5-7seconds every time, also now if I pushed more throttle it worked fine.
Low rpm low throttle had problems so it might well be idle mixture setting that is all that is needed or then something else is wrong with somewhere idle jet area.

Oh yes, it really did not like if I did engine braking and pushed throttle just a little, but hard kick to accelerator seemed to help.

Throttle plate was not sitting ok, so adjusted it today, but still problems, can't apply much throttle as goes lean and stuttering and banging comes.

Then I got annoyed enough and swapped emulsion tubes within themselves and there is lot less problems, still it seem to go lean at low throttle and it has some kangaroo effect when stepping on gas after engine braking, but much better now, maybe I then need to put another emulsion tube with 4 holes to it and put bigger main fuel jet and it will be driveable.

What an odd carb it is.
