340 sport exhaust
I'm going to be getting a new stailess steel exhaust built for Vicky's car.
While I'm at it I thought it would be a good opertunity to get full systems built.
What I would do is build a complete system for the 1.7 and do a front pipe back (use original pipe) for the 1.4 and 360.
There will be options on what tail pipe ( I would think just a std crome pipe should do) and a choice of 2.5" or 3"
Cost for the systems would be £250 - £300 for the full system depending on how many are intested. I will syply hangers etc for fitting.
I'm going to leave doing Vicky's car to give you all a chance to think about it before I get it done as I will not want to take the exhaust off once it is fitted.

VOC already have a system for sale for 300s, and at a very reasonable price, so that's available for those of us who are VOC members (Volvo Owners Club), although of course they would simply be a copy of the stock system, but just in stainless.
If this is a larger diameter upgrade then I might be interested, although you'd need to do a completely different system for the 360s because they're exhaust systems hang in a completely different way to 340 exhausts.

The systems will be of a bigger bore with the option of 2" or 2.5".
The 360 will be able to use the same system as we will design it to fit the same.
The VOC is just a ss copy of the original.
I will also be able to get 360 pass down pipes made if someone can provide a template.

May I suggest the system is made from using a template of the factory exhaust. For example Volvo systems use a different tailpiece to extend out on saloons. On a car with a kit, its quite important it all lines up at the rear.
Watching this with interest, the 360s exhaust is a bit of a mess at the moment... Would 2.25" be available?

There's no way that a 340 system will fit a 360 no matter how you design it. Even if the tubes and shapes will fit in fine, the 340 exhaust hangs in a completely different way to the 360 one so you won't be able to make it work.
Also Steve's right, you need 2 different lengths of tail pipe for it to look good on both saloons and hatches. Yes I know the Kwik-fit ones use the same tailpipes but if you see the difference you'll be able to see they look very crappy and for the price you're aiming to charge crappy won't be acceptable.

I think it would be best to design it to fit a 360 first, then develop an adaptation for the mounts on 340s. I see it working better that way around. The rear box mounts are the same IIRC, but front and rear are very different.
I'd not go larger than 2" (apart from at the tailpipe, for you ricers) with the B200. A B230 might just about justify a 2.5" system, especially if a 2" pipe were used as far as the centre box. Beyond a point, large is bad on NA. Go as large as you can with a turbo.

Just a quick note - classicswede will know this but for those who don't, designing an exhaust system is not just a question for fitting the biggest pipes you can.
Whilst the tailpipe itself has a relatively small effect the size of the pipework has great influence on engine efficiency. Whilst on a forced induction system (especially turbocharged) large is largely good - on a 'normal' engine whether carb or injection a tuned degree of back pressure is essential to provide exhaust back pulses to ensure efficient cylinder scavenging. On a turbocharged engine the situation is slightly less critical as the exhaust pump itself provides both a degree of back pressure and a scavenging effect (as part of the exhaust waste energy recovery process)
The idea of 'tuning' an exhaust is critical for two stroke engines but also applies (to a lesser extent I admit) to four strokes.
Where 'boy racers' (none here surely) often get it wrong is to fit a huge exhaust system on a standard, small capacity engine, and them wonder why what power they did have has become rather less!
To put it very simply, when designing an exhaust system, pipe size should be specified to give the least resistance to flow whilst retaining good waste gas scavenging. Unfortunately keeping the engine quiet tends to interfere with power output so most exhausts are a compromise.
Before I get pulled up - the ideal engine would have no silencing but also very little noise either - noise is energy that has been wasted by the engine, as is heat. If noise, heat, and kinetic energy can be 'used' by the engine then the need for an exhaust system is reduced. Turbochargers are in effect energy recovery pumps!

you are pobalbe right that the 360 system will need to be very different. I will have to get a 360 in as a template for building the system for them. The back box will probable be the same for both.
I had not realy thought about the saloone been longer but that will not be a problem in the slightest as I have a saloone to use for trail fitment.

Vickys car has gobe in tonight to have the exhaust done.
Once it comes back I will have to do a few jobs on it before it can be finished.
I'm not getting the down pipe done yet as I'm going to change the set up and dont see any poit doing the job twice so to speak.

Hmmmm interesting...
I would potentially be interested in a stainless exhaust.... mine has suffered quite badly on our recent european adventure and is hanging off!.
At the moment i have the standard 1.7 although i am currently researching putting a turbo lump in from a 440.
if i was to put in an order for an exhaust say 2.5 in diameter would i then need to get a larger bore one for the turbo when it went in or could i use a large bore one for the 1.7 to start with
...
Basically i dont want to shell out 2-300 quid for an exhaust and have to buy another one when / if the engine change takes place.

You could use the 2.5", but you'd probably see a loss of power (although the butt dyno might disagree, mainly due to the SIIIIC noise). I'd definitely do this though - a little pain now will be well worth it to get a good result with the turbo lump. I can't help thinking that 2" is too big for a B14, but I'm willing to be proved wrong.
