Hi all, petavius's other half here. Due to the exhaust deciding to part company with my car Gem has let me use her 340 GLE (Under caution of death if anything happens to it ) to get about. I must admit i am enjoying driving it but one thing which is really annoying is almost like a dead spot on the accelerator. when you put your foot on the pedal to pull away or at low speed there seems to be a delay before the throttle opens up and the revs rise. Any idea what this could be. I belive the cable is adjusted correctly, but then i may be wrong.
Cheers for any help, and i hope you are keeping well.
Ahh right. Yeah. I would think its most likely a worn or maladjusted carb. Either the float height is incorrect, or the accel pump diaphragm is worn/split. Both will cause a momentary weak mixture on a sharp pull off which will cause a slight hesitation.
Does that sound like what you're describing? I would first of all look at the float height, cos that's more likely to be the cause if its on a gentle pull away, if its on a 'flat to the floor' type of pull away then its more likely its the accell pump, but never say never
Right then, my intention is to have a look at the carb tonight. Not having done anything like this, what and how difficult is to check both the float height and the accel pump diaphragm. I guess this involves taking the top off the carb but seeing how its gems car i'm a bit nervous and any sort of guide or what not to do's would be appreaciated.
