Exhaust manifolds

Post by classicswede »

A number of you have expressed an interest in stainless tubular maniflods in the what next thread.

If you have questions about the manifolds please ask. If there is more than one option you are intersted in please metion in this thread. Please vote if you are interested as it could make the differece between the part being made or not.

Cheers
Dai

What advantages can one of those manifolds for the 1.7 Turbo have instead of the original one?

To start with the std turbo manifold does not fit. The manifold would save the hassle of cutting and rewelding the original one. The flow through the manifold would be better and even branches for improved balance.
A consistant manifold will also make it a off the shelf as such for a complete exhaust system rather than one off made to fit.

Done! I've put it with the 360, as that'll have the right drive train etc and will be the car it's dropped into.

I think anyone buying one of these before upgrading the rest of their exhaust system needs ceremonially shooting out of a cannon ;)

Good work Dai - it'd be great to see more parts like this becoming available. I have interest in both an NA manifold, and a turbo one for a 360...but I may make my own (of one or both) in due course. Keep me posted!

cheers

Thanks for the explanation

The exhaust manifold fits in LHD cars, the inlet manifold needs changes.

But it's interesting... One of these days I need to go to UK to buy parts for my 340

The easy answer to the inlet manifold is to use the early injection one with twin tb's. I would have thought this would also fit on LDH cars too.

Yes, that fits, but that engine have never been sold in Portugal, it's easier to change the B18Ft one that to find a inlet from one of those

Well if they nover sold it then your only relistic option is to modify the B18FT manifold then. They are rare over here so you struggle even getting one from here sent over.

Sorry that did not read very well.

What I saying is the early manifold is rare in the uk so it is not a viable option to source one from the uk either.

I asume all that needs doing to the turbo manifold is the same as a RHD car and move the throttle boby to the other end so it faces the front of the car.

I hope that now reads clearly.

Yes now it's perfect

There are a Renault that have the inlet manifold equal to first 400's, it's the Renault 21 with multipoint injection. Not many in Portugal to.

In LHD cars the Turbo manifold needs tha same conversion as in RHD ones. Here is a pic of mine inlet manifold modded.
