Dori q's: Ali? Bennett? Stav? Chunk?

Post by oli »

Basically love the 340 in the wet - light rain not water drenched surfaces.
car is stocku bought 4 months ago 5 door daily.
some questions really:
circley skids happen very rarely, most of the time open diff gayness and one wheel spins up - mig spec sort this?
rear tyres have loads of tread but probably cheapo tyres - would inflating the buggers help further or do naff all in the wet? What about in the dry?
thinking of welded diff? who runs with one as a daily driver?
Anyone love it in the wet more than the dry? as in the dry its pretty cack and would a welded help in the dry as one wheel spinning is annoying - ha.

cheers

get the diff welded and run 50-60psi of pressure in the rear tyres that will help drifting also lowering helps.

Ran mine as my daily driver for 1000 miles or so, it'll be fine same as any other car with a MIG spec, as you'll be keeping the interior for your boys then it'll probably make the skipping less noticeable anyway. Its never going to be easy to drift in the dry but it'll make it a whole lot more predictable and controllable in the wet, I only ran with 45psi on the track and run 35 on the roads, running higher pressures probably will help but it'll stiff drift at that piece of piss anyway

That simple?
Nice one Lee.
so its as i thought do the lot - welded and inflating 8) and lowering

another question - about rims and widths. I've seen some sweet 7inch wide minilites on a few 340's surely you guys dont drift with these rims? I've seen Turbohaus' ovlov with pimp orange rims on the front and narrower rimmage on rear diffing it up at some practise days and P1 events. The width must not help in the spinning up of them surely?

Iirc they run 175/50/R13s which is thinner than most volvo alloys will have on them anyway (standard size 185/60/R14)

That right?

Never checked the tyre sizes on the 340. will do tonight.so they run a slight stretched tyre? Have some jdm looking rims on a 6j running same tyre sizes on my way.

You ever try a 13inch rim?

The tyres on 340's can vary, most common size is 175/70(?)/13

Nah never tried 13s, all my wheels/tyres are 14s, all 185/60/R14s, never had a problem with breaking traction yet :D

with 7x13 wheel you stretch the 175/50r13 tyre over the 7inch and with 40psi the side walls will not flex so in the wet its like driving on ice.
i street drift with my 7x13 but on the track i am looking for some 7x14.
i am playing at the moment with the 7x13 with 165/55r13 tyres with 50 psi and they drift fine. you dont want too much flex in the tyre side wall.
thanks lee
