Post by dynamite40 »

hi guy's quick question my fuel filter between the pump and carb
if i leave the car for a day the filter is empty and a cow to start
why is the fuel draining cant't see no leaks
is there a one way valve in it to stop the fuel going back too the tank
thanks

If fuel hoses are original they look ok, but are really leaking, this is at least my experience from 1988 360.

the one-way valves are in the fuel pump. more often than not these have started to leak because of old age.

also, i believe there is a return line on this model (fixed jet in fuel pump which keeps steady fuel flow around the pump, meant to exclude tendency of vapour lock)

Most likely to be the fuel hoses leaking and drawing air. Particularly the cloth covered fuel hoses. The worst bit of cost cutting ever. Change all those first, everything, right from the carburettor backwards to either side of the plastic fuel lines at the fuel pump and tank end.

That works in about 90% of cases, the other 10% is fuel pump.

I think I will get new fuel pump too as with new hoses carb still gets dry over night or then I just install electric pump as I happen to have one on self.
