Hello, just a thought... there might be cheaper ones on eBay which would be brand new (or at least refurbished). Seller gbw222 has one for £12 p/x plus delivery and cloverc243 has one for £25. Might be worth a search. Cheers, bogbasic.

Hmm yeah, if the wheel is harder to turn that you've experienced before then there could be a problem with the steering geometry or wheel alignment.
First of all do the stupid things first though and make sure the tyres are in good condition and up to pressure. Then if you can, jack the front of the car up and place on stands so you can see if the wheel is stiff to turn when there's no load on the tyres.
If that's all OK then I'd get the car's wheel alignment checked at a professional fitters.

Pettaw may well be on the money - Nessy's steering got a lot lighter when it was tracked correctly.
I have to say, I love your powers of deduction here...
3 previous 340s...all fine...
....new one is heavy...MUST NEED PAS!

Sorry, just tickled me.
340 1.4s are pretty light for manual steering cars. I'm pretty certain something's up with it. Having said that, if you do want PAS, I have a kit for a 340 for sale...just needs a 360 rack.
cheers
James

Having said that Foggy, my 1.4 is tons worse than my 1.7 for heavyness of steering. Granted, I do have a feeling something is knackered in it, just because it doesn't make any other logical sense...
