Steering wheel

Post by Carl »

Bought myself a Mountney steering wheel and boss this week, for the grand sum of £45. Finally got round to fitting it tonight and I'm quite impressed with it for what it cost. The boss isn't the most pretty thing in the world, but it works and it allows you to use the standard indicator cancelling ring as there's 2 holes to mount it and a hole for the horn wiring. Something which can be problematic for other boss's from what I understand.

Anyways, here's a few rubbish phone pics:

So what ya reckon? Could do with the wheel being a little bigger (I think it's 13"), but I like it. Will finish fitting it properly over the weekend so I can test it on the road.

Anyone know if you can get R-Sport Mountney horn pushes? I'm sure I read somewhere you could, but I could be dreaming that!

Cheers

Just curious, but what good will a hole for horn wiring do?
The voltage going to and from the horn passes trough 2 metal rings on the steering wheel that make contact with 2 contacts on the steering housing.

Just connecting wiring through the holes would result in wires getting twisted a lot.

It's exactly the same design as the standard wheel. The 2 horn rings and the indicator canceller can be removed as one piece from the Volvo wheel and then mounted on the Mountney boss. The wire's dont twist as it all moves with the wheel as you turn it.

On the pic of the boss above the big hole is where the wires go through to the horn push and the little holes are for the mounting lugs on the indicator canceller/horn ring.

Bilbo - yeah I think the 14" would be better, but I'll see how I get on with this one for now. Where did you get the R-Sport button for yours? I like!
