my car missed out by 3 months

Currently cars have to have been constructed before a set date - the 1st January 1973 to be eligible for historic car tax exemption. We the undersigned would like the date to be move as it has been fixed for a number of years. A number of cars which were built in British factories are becoming few and far between and would like the Government to help preserve these cars by offering and extension on the current exemption date.

That law must have been set out by someone who had no idea about cars whatsoever. How can anyone say cars before 1973 were classics, cars after aren't?

25 years is a good benchmark. It's the critical age of a car, when it stops being seen by Joe Public as being a used banger and starts being something people want to cherish and keep. That'd make early Mk2 300's eligible for tax exemption - quite right too in my opinion.

I saw a mention of this in the motoring press the other day and I meant to find it. Good call on posting it up on here. How they thought they could or should stop it at a certain year always puzzled me. More money for them, the longer it stays that way, the less cars remain that will be eligible.

The reason (apparently) that they stopped the tax at '73 was because there is a steep increase in the number of cars '74-on still on the roads, it was an interview in practical classics a month or 3 ago, but i do agree and have signed

last that i had heard was that they were thinking of getting rid of the tax exemption, which would be a real bummer. my landrover is 42 years old and i wont be able to afford the tax for that and the 360 so they better not get rid of the exemption
ive signed it as it would get me 2 cars free of road tax! cant argue with that!

Here in the netherlands, there isnt any tax for cars older than 25years. My 343 is from '79, so i dont pay even a pence of tax!
