Hi.
How hard is it to replace a rear wheel bearing?
I have looked in Haynes but I would say that I'm a bit more confused now!!
Do you guys have some tips & tricks for this operation?? Is it a bit to difficult for a DIY or can it be done? I have access to a workshop so if the operation needs some special tools, then I propably have access to those as well.

But I'm a novice when it comes to rear wheel bearings! Almost everything else is simple on a 300 series...

It is a bit difficult for DIY purposes.. but people have managed before.. Generally things tend to be really stuck due to the factory putting loctite on the bearings..
You probably need a good assortment of pullers, and a press to push the new bearings on, unless you want to take chances with heating them up and dropping them over the hubs after letting those sit in the freezer for a while.

Even though I have access to a workshop, I think I will let someone with much more expertise do this job for me!
It's a bit of a defeat for me, but I can see that I can't do this on my own.

Andy aka Pettaw has done rear wheel bearings I seem to remember. I think he said it was a lot of hassle and something he wouldn't be overly keen on doing again on a 300. As IvanAE86 said the loctite makes life difficult I think.

I'm quite sure it's something I would not tackle, unless someone with the knowledge and tools was willing to help me! Which as you say, seems like you've been defeated, which isn't ideal, but om the other hand, if you pay for a professional who does know what they're doing, who'll be a lot quicker and once it's done, it shouldn't need doing for a long while!

That's right! I have talked to a "pro" who lives just around the cornor, and he could replace the bearing on wednesday... that's quick and I don't think that I have to pay a whole lot for the job!

Good stuff, worth going that route to be honest. Until earlier this year I had not tackled any wheel bearings, when I set about doing the front ones on my GLT. Had a great sense of achievement when it was done and I've been helping a friend do the renound trailling arms on his Punto, and wheel bearings while we were there.

However as I said, to tackle the rear wheel bearings on a 300 isn't something I fancy doing on my own yet!

Let us know how it goes and if you're there with him, get some pics and a description maybe to help others assess the possibility of them attempting it themselve in the future?

Good job on the front wheel bearings.
The only thing I think is a bit tricky is the bearing racers! They can be a bit stuck in there!

I'll see to it, but I can't promise any pic's! Let's see.
