1988 Volvo 360 GLT Project-Is no More :-(

Post by stealthstylz »

Thought i'd start a project thread up.

The car is basically a 1988 Volvo 360 GLT saloon. It was first registered on 30/08/1988 and used as a demonstator car for the Tourist Trophy garage in Farnham, Kent. It was then sold to a Mr F. Wells on 14/01/1989.

It has now covered about 75000 miles, and is fairly mint. However it will now have to endure my "standard cars are rubbish" mentality and will end up with around 3 times as much power and be lots lots lower lol.

I got the car on then cracked on with removing the small amounts of rust that were present. Nothing too bad just surface rust in most places. However I started stripping the n/s front wing to find that theres a huge hole under where the front skirt fastens on. I think i'm gonna try and repair it tho there doesnt look like much good metal to weld to.

Anyway some photos of the car as it stands at the minute

The all important badges and cool mini lip spoiler

The interior is in mint condition

N/S rust removal - small bit of rust under wing mirror and on b pillar.

Image

There were some scrapes in the bonnet which had rusted from what looks like where accessory spot lights were fitted

Image

The only bit of damage to the o/s from where the keys have dug into the paint. Will be sanded down and looks like it'll need a bit of filler to smooth it.

Image

This is the n/s front wing. As you can see its very rusty. I'm going to try to repair it but doesnt look like there'll be much to weld to. If I can't repair it will try to find one in a scrapyard and if that fails will buy a new one.

All the photos are taken on my phone so not the best quality.

Great stuff, if only I had the time to do such things so quickly. I've got so many bits and pieces I really need to do, but haven't got around to doing them! Looks like it's getting the care and attention it deserves.

Got the drivers wing off eventually today, wire brushed and sanded underneath then rustproofed it. Its a horrid colour but should protect it well and can't be seen with the wing on.

Gonna do the same to the passenger side tomorrow. I also got my ally cats from home, the tyres are coming off the metro wheels and will be fitted to the ally cats when I've refurbed em.

Dish!!

Did some more work today. Got both wings rustproofed inside, and rustproofed the passenger side wing. Also fitted a rather nifty induction cone lol had it knocking around so thought I might aswell. Sounds pretty good actually just needs a jubilee clip to hold it on as I ran out.

Front Drivers Side Wing on after rustproofing - you can see the bits of pink anti rust paint poking out will paint em body colour when I do the other bits

Passenger Side inner wing rustproofed.

Passenger side wing rustproofed inside. Did the same with the drivers wing but didnt get pics

Image

New cone filter fitted. Theres a few gaps round the headlight should let air in but will fun a cold air feed to it for the time being also.

And finally spencer the dog driving lol

Good work indeed, that's the way to do it, get it all done at once. Good to see rust prevention, people often overlook it.

LOL at Spencer the dog too, who seems to like the car!

I've not insured the car yet which is the reason i'm doing all the work. Also i'm on my easter hols from uni so lots of time spare. Gonna whip the struts off tomorrow and lower the front.
