Renix flywheel sensor

Hi,

On the journey home from Dai's house where we had just collected Michols blue 340 that Dai had kindly welding and MOT'd....

On the A55 the 340 cut out and stalled. It couldnt be restarted.

A quick diagnostic showed there was no spark at the plug or any from the main lead from the Renix. The cause was found to be the top bolt of the flywheel sensor and nut was gone (this explained the clattering noise he heard before the car cut out) and the top bolt was loose. The sensor had thus been allowed to rotate/fall onto the flywheel surface and its tip was sheared off - remaining bit was bent.

The car was running great for 1 hour before that though!!!

I didnt have a spare with me and the RAC dont carry them so the 340 was recovered back to manchester. I followed in my 850 (black 480 auto is now in storage).

Michols car is now using my spare flywheel sensor. I may have found a company selling new ones but does anyone have spare?

We replaced the flywheel sensor bolt using bolt type 335 (or was it 355) from B and Q. The original bolts have a unthreaded part near the bolt head which is thicker than the threaded part. B&Q bolt 335 (or 355??) is as thick as the unthreaded part and is the same length as the original bolt. Although Ive never used them before, this time I fitted a 13mm (head) locknut onto the new bolt.

Once a good sensor was fitted, the 340 fired into life as if nothing had happened!! hooray!!

Nessy's original bellhousing had one of the bolt hole tabs sheer off, so it was only supported on one. It survived 15k like that :)

cheers

Surely you saw that? ;) From memory, one of us (probably Grandad) got a bit overexcited when changing the clutch.

cheers

hello

Dai - do you have a new one? Ive tried contacting an Italian company called Facet who make coils, flywheel sensors, rotor arms and dist caps for the 340. They also do lots of other volvo parts.

I've emailed them a few times, but they are so good at replying to email it seems....
