clio engine on twin carbs

I'm going to fit the clio engine to my 340 soon and am going to use twin carbs but want a basic ignition system to run the car whilst i save for a decent system.


I'm thinking of using the standard volvo ignition system for a short time mated to the clio dizzy, i know it's not going to be great but just want something cheap/free to use for a few months.
Was also thinking if it turns out to be too advanced on the timing i can earth out pin 7 to retard it 4 degrees (been doing some research lol).

Just need to make sure the clio flywheel has the same teeth as the volvo one.

What's peoples thoughts on this? will it work/any better free/cheap ideas?

how much are you planing/not to spend including the engine?


as it seems a little expensive to get all the bits, manifolds etc

Those guys have found a way using Renault Ecu. That is a lot cheaper, and better for fuel economy

I did do a bit of a search on here about the engine swap and seriously thought about keeping it injection but really the cars just a second car/toy and i've always fancied the idea of a fuel guzzling, snorting twin carb monster lol :D

So far i've got the engine sitting here and the manifold for the twin carbs is on it's way from Greece (was hard to find) so now just need the twin carbs, linkage, pressure regulator, fuel pump, air filters, clutch parts and a few other odds and ends which i'm hoping to get for around the 1k mark.
Then it'll be a rolling road setup for the carbs and save save save for a decent ignition computer, loom, etc 8)

you will need to mod the inlet manifold as in the volvo the engine sits up rite and not layed back so the carbs wont work.

Is this due to clearence? it looked like there was tons of rooms from the pics of 340s i've seen running bike carbs and twin carbs :?

I think he means the level of the carbs. They need to sit level otherwise they won't work properly.

The induction noise of well set up throttle bodies will match twin carbs.

i guess if the worst comes to the worst i can sell my manifold onto one of the clio boys then buy a cheap ebay twin carb manifold and cut the standard clio manifold and weld the carb side straight to it.

Hopefully though, having looked at pics of the one i'm waiting for it might be straight 8)
